Helpful Little Book
on July 29, 2013
This is, as the title states, advice for Dad's of all ages. It is presented with humor and is pleasantly free from the type of "expert" advice that can often give books like this the voice of a scold.
This is basically a book of lists of what worked for the author in terms of handling pregnancy, infant and young child issues. The author draws on his experience with his first family child (thirty when the book was written) as well as second family experience (his youngest was born when he was over age sixty). His calm handling of the issues parents face should be good for any first-time dads who are nervous at the arrival of their new bundle of responsibility.
I found his advice helpful and commonsensical. He supplies many helpful hints lists that I wish I had available when my kids were young. The really good idea I took away from this book was the series of letters he wrote to all of his kids while they were in utero or during their very young years. They are short notes and describe memorable occurrences or just provide a flavor of what was going on from a time the child will not be able to remember. These I imagine will be treasured when the child reaches adult years and beyond.
I'd recommend this for any expectant Dad; young or older; first time or veteran.
