5.0 out of 5 stars Papal concert one to remember, March 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Papal Concert to Commemorate the Holocaust [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I bought the Papal Concert to Commemorate the Holocaust after my wife, who is a fan of the Pope, brought up that the concert had been recorded and might be available. As a great fan of Pope John Paul she hoped to find it and, when we looked on Amazon it turned out to be available the ridiculous price of under $5. I ordered it, thinking that it would turn out to be in poor shape, but when it arrived a week later, the VHS tape was in good condition as advertised, including the box. My wife rushed to load it into the dual player we had upstairs, and proceeded to watch. The tape not only shows the concert itself, but all of the coordination between the conductor, who put the music and production together, Richard Dreyfuss, who was asked to perform the Kaddish, often popularly referred to as the "Jewish Prayer for the Dead", and the Papal staff. Survivors of the Holocaust were invited, as was the senior Rabbi for Italy, and most of the Vatican staff. The music was beautiful, the overall performance very moving, and the tape itself, a transparent means to transport us into the audience of this once in a lifetime performance.
