Although his original claim to fame was as a country songwriter (and half of the hip country duo Foster and Lloyd, who recorded for RCA in the '80s), Bill Lloyd has always been a true popster at heart. His solo albums Feeling the Elephant, Set to Pop, and Standing On The Shoulders of Giants garnered praise from USA Today, Request, Pulse, No Depression, Sound and Vision, and Goldmine.
Lloyd has produced projects for other acts including The Thompson Brothers, Carl Perkins, Sweethearts of the Rodeo and Webb Wilder. His songs have been covered by a diverse range of artists including Hootie and the Blowfish, Guy Clark, Tanya Tucker, Martina McBride, Poco, Marshall Crenshaw, Juice Newton, Beth Neilsen Chapman, Al Anderson, Jill Sobule, Webb Wilder, Joy Lynn White, The Kennedys, Ben Vaughn and even Maureen McCormack (that's Marsha Brady to most of us). As a session player and singer, he has appeared on albums by Steve Earle, Buck Owens and Ringo Starr, Marshall Crenshaw, Kim Richey, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Beth Neilsen Chapman, Webb Wilder, Steppenwolf, Ricky Van Shelton and George Ducas, among others

Great combination,

Bill Lloyd and Jamie Hoover make a great songwriting team, with their enthusiasm for pop music and their talent for cranking out irresistable hooks and songs. Lloyd is an excellent guitarist, and combined with Hoover's vocals this disc does not have a bad song on it. If you agree that radio is not very friendly to new well crafted popular music these days, and are sick of oldies, take heart. This is modern power pop without gimmicks and that's what the world needs more of -- bass, guitars, drums, occasional keyboard -- that's rock and roll. This is well worth it, and I hope Lloyd and Hoover put out another CD in 2005.

I love the 80s,

Anyone who misses the power pop of the 1980s - esp. early Elvis Costello, Marshall Crenshaw, Tommy Keene, etc. - will enjoy this collaboration between Bill Lloyd and Jamie Hoover. One star subtracted for the somewhat disturbingly large amount of misogynistic lyrics - for a CD that was "a lot of fun" to record, was it necessary to portray women as money-grubbing, gossiping b*ches so many times?
