From Booklist

Gr. 1^-3. Harness has taken the famous Clement C. Moore poem "A Visit from Saint Nicholas" and fashioned another, similar in style but broader in scope, about what was happening in the world at large on that long-ago Christmas Eve. As Santa and his reindeer fly over the globe, the reader learns that "in the Land of the Rising Sun / A winter morning has begun. / Temple bells ring in the day: / Westerners are far away." But nowhere in the book is there any specific mention of Asian culture. Decorative borders surround the author's detailed pen-and-ink and colored-pencil illustrations, which contribute much to the book's overall impact. Kathy Broderick
