4.0 out of 5 stars "Papa's Dream" - Los Lobos; Mama's Review
"Papa's Dream is a lively tale about a family that goes on a special trip. It is quite suitable for the classroom of the Beginning Level Learners of Spanish. Notice the accompanying audio CD or cassette, filled with entertaining music, as well as narration. This cassette or CD will be particularly useful for the teacher who may not be themselves fluent in...

3.0 out of 5 stars too much narrative
I found the story was too intrusive and sometimes contrived. The idea of Papa Lalo sewing his own hot air balloon was outrageous and that he did it using the hide of a wooly bully is just dumb. The story was too long and took up too much time between songs. I also didn't like that sometimes the story's narrative was overlaid onto the muscial tracks, not just in the...

If you've ever been on a long trip with a four year old and had to endure Barney CD's or any number of mind numbing Disney CD's, this is your answer. Great rock n roll your children will love to sing along to. (Try the La La La song if you don't believe me.) What else would you expect from the our best American band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Children's Celebration of Latin Culture, January 26, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Papa's Dream (Audio CD)
I am the music buyer for a small children's store and I always try to keep this one in stock. We just resorted our demo tapes and I was thrilled to rediscover this one. We play it in our store all the time because it's fun for our young guests and we adults enjoy it so much too. What a great way to celebrate Latin culture!

4.0 out of 5 stars LALO GUERRERO IS "PAPA LALO", May 24, 2001
This review is from: Papa's Dream (Audio CD)
I'M A SCHOOL TEACHER, I CAME ACROSS THIS CD QUITE BY ACCIDENT WHILE IN THE SCHOOL LIBRARY AND HAVE BEEN A "LALO GUERRERO" FAN FOR MANY YEARS. I BOUGHT HIS NEWEST CD "VAMOS A BAILAR-OTRA VEZ" AND THOUGHT I'D HEARD EVERYTHING, THAT CD CONTAINS SOME GREAT "LATIN SWING" JUMP-BLUES-ZOOT SUIT MUSIC AND NOW FOR ME TO DISCOVER THIS GEM WAS SIMPLY A GREAT TREAT. I COULD'NT BELIEVE THIS WAS THE SAME ARTIST, IS THERE NO BOUNDRIES TO THIS 83 YEAR LEGEND? "PAPA LALO" AS THE KIDS NOW CALL HIM HAS BECOME ONE OF THE FAVORITES AT THIS SCHOOL. "PAPS DREAM" w/LALO GUERRERO AND LOS LOBOS HAVE STRUCK A CORD WITH ALL THE TEACHERS AND KIDS ALIKE. THE KIDS HAVE ALSO DISCOVERED "LAS ARDILLITAS" A KIND SPANISH CHICKMUNKS FOR SPANISH SPEAKING CHILDREN AND I'M PLEASED TO INFORM YOU THAT MOST TEACHERS AT OUR SCHOOL, NOW OWN A COPY OF "VAMOS A BAILAR-OTRA VEZ" (LET' DANCE AGAIN). THIS HAS TO BE VERY RARE, WHEN ANY ARTIST CUTS ACROSS GENERATIONS LIKE THAT AND IN THE PROCESS MAKES IT LOOK SO EASY. I HOPE MR. GUERRERO CONTINUES TO DO WHAT HE'S DONE SO WELL FOR OVER 65 YEARS. GREAT CD's BUY THEM ALL, THEY'RE FUN, FUNNY AND BEST OF ALL CONTAIN SOME GREAT MUSIC. . . .YOU WON'T BE SORRY.

5.0 out of 5 stars PAPA'S DREAM, July 4, 2000

I ORIGINALLY BORROWED THIS TAPE FROM THE LIBRARY AND DIDN'T WANT TO GIVE IT BACK. I FOUND IT HERE AND HAVE NOW BOUGHT THE CD FOR MY HOME MUSIC LIBRARY. IT IS TRULY A REFRESHING TASTE OF THE MEXICAN INFLUENCE ON A BAND FROM ELA. I LOVE THIS TAPE BECAUSE EVERYBODY I KNOW CAN ENJOY IT EQUALLY. IT BRINGS BACK BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES AND ALLOWS YOU TO BRING THESE MEMORIES AND TRADITIONS TO MY CHILD. IT IS A GOOD WAY TO GET IN TOUCH WITH YOUR ROOTS. IT IS A TREASURE THAT I CAN SHARE AT PARTIES OR WHEN IT IS JUST US SITTING AROUND AS A FAMILY.

GREAT JOB- IT IS HIP, OLDFASHIONED ENOYABLE FUN. SOMETHING THAT NOT EVERY BAND IS ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH. PLEASE GIVE US MORE OF THIS WONDERFUL STORYTELLING STYLE OF MUSIC. I AM PROUD TO KNOW THESE GUYS ARE FROM MY HOMETOWN.

A wonderful imaginary and silly story of a Mexican-American family traveling to Mexico in a flying balloon to celebrate Papa Lalo's birthday. The versions of "La Bamba", 'Wooly Bully", and "Cielito Lindo" are great on this CD and the narration between songs adds a lot to this CD. A little bit of Spanish is a plus to follow the narration. You should listen to this CD from the beginning to the end, do not try to shuffle this CD, otherwise, you would miss the main theme of the album.

We have been playing this CD for the last six years and we still enjoy it.

Asa long time fan of Los Lobos I had to buy this CD and what a wonderful surprise this little gem was. I highly recommend it to Los Lobos fans and lovers of Latin music. It's a fun, light collection of songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars great mornings!!!, December 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Papa's Dream (Audio CD)
With two small children in the house, happy mornings are the key! They love dancing to Papa Lalo after breakfast. It is such a wonderful story, besides great music. My oldest wants to have a pinata for her next birthday, and is working at learning the Pinata song...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for kids and parents!, June 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Papa's Dream (Audio CD)
We bought this CD for our then 6 mo. old daughter. We listen to it in the car and at home and she loves it, as do we!

The Spanish spoken during the story is not that much, so even non-Spanish speakers will understand, and may even learn a few words. The familiar songs, re-done Los Lobos style are excellent!

This is a great CD and a wonderful and imaginative cuento(story) for the whole family!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, June 10, 2002
This review is from: Papa's Dream (Audio CD)
Los Lobos teams up with Lalo Guerrero to take children on an extraordinary adventure and musical tour. I don't know who has enjoyed this CD more -- my children or their parents! We've been trying to learn Spanish as a family, and this has been a wonderful, fun supplement to our language lessons. Some of the songs are in English, but many are in Spanish, and all the lyrics are helpfully printed in the liner notes.
