Crafters will love this,
By Armchair Interviews (Minneapolis, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Paper Crafting with Carol Duvall (Paperback)
Paper Crafting With Carol Duvall is filled with original and innovative crafts for beginners and pros alike. There are practical and easy crafts such as making place mats and Picture Topped Shaker Boxes as well as more challenging crafts such as Jacob's Ladder Photo Holder to show off pictures and crafting skills with.
Ever thought of turning a gift bag into a clock or creating a puzzle for your refrigerator out of an enlarged picture and magnets? Carol Duvall has. Duvall's book is filled with more than great crafts, it has her words of encouragement sprinkled throughout. For instance, when Carol Duvall introduces crafters to the Never-Ending Card, she says, "When Cherryl showed me this seemingly complicated card that you just keep unfolding , and then demonstrated to me how ridiculously easy it is to make--I couldn't believe it." Reading this crafting book feels like sitting down and making crafts with your best and most patient friend. Fans of the Carol Duvall show will be happy to know that also included in the book are some great craft ideas, "From the Shoe Box," like the Locking Letter. One needn't be familiar with Carol Duvall to enjoy her easy tone and can-do attitude towards making crafts. Armchair Interviews says: A crafter's delight.

I was very excited to finally find this book and I was not disappointed when I received it. For beginning paper crafters it has wonderful step-by-step illustrations. For more advanced crafters it also sparks creative ideas. I love it and so does my daughter.

Queen of Crafting -Carol Duvall,
This review is from: Paper Crafting with Carol Duvall (Paperback)
If you love crafting especially with paper you will love this book. Carol Duval is one of the best in the business. I bought the book for a present and had to order a copy for myself. Her projects vary in difficulty but the instructions are super clear. If you love her show you will enjoy this book

When my mom heard this book was being published, she shopped all the local craft stores for it, so I was happy to be able to purchase it for her for Christmas. She and I both agree that many of the crafts in the book can be found on the hgtv.com website in the Carol Duvall show archives, but it's great to have them all compiled.
My special favorite is the project for decorating a wrapped gift with a stand-up/pop-up diorama. Although much work is required to put it together, the surprise factor of receiving a gift so lovingly created would be well worth the effort. I also love her idea for storing rubber stamps and put it into implementation immediately.

Many books purchased sight unseen turn out to be a disappointment. NOT THIS ONE! The book, itself, was in top-notch condition (read: practically brand new), and I received it even before the expected due date. (A+ for the sender!!) All the other views extolled the contents of this book, and they are not wrong. If you craft anything at all, this book is NOT TO BE MISSED!

Shhh, this is being put up for my mom for Christmas. If I can give it up, that is.
I am a crafter, but not much of a paper crafter. My mom is crafty with paper for her Sunday School kids, grandkids and just for fun....and she is a huge Carol Duvall fan. This arrived today slightly damaged (thanks a lot Amazon) so I was thumbing through it to be sure it was only the cover and corners that suffered superficial damage, not the contents. Now I am hooked! The clear, bright photos and easy to understand instructions are making me re-think the idea of avoiding paper crafts....also re-think the idea of giving away this book. It has templates for the projects such as gift boxes and envelopes. My favorite thing is that it mostly only calls for simple materials such as scrapbooking papers. You can make several beautiful projects without a huge monetary investment with elements and such that can quickly run into big bucks. These projects are also kid-friendly which will be perfect for my mom's 4th graders in Sunday School...and for my homeschool Craft Day gatherings, when I borrow this book back from Mom. And the damage: This book is not shrink wrapped. Putting it in a way too oversized box with no protection caused it to be banged back and forth in shipping and put a slight crease on the front cover and bumps on the outer corners. Does not hinder the use, but does take away from the beauty of the gift.

Carol Duvall's new book is like meeting up with an old friend. I was a regular viewer for years and years, and I really miss seeing her show. I still don't know why she was taken off the air (boo! to the network), but I hope she is doing well. This books has many of her wonderful craft projects as well as hints and tips from "THE SHOEBOX" ! There will never be another craft show like hers - she can't be replaced. Write more books Carol!
