THE card making book to have,
By Barbara Rhoades "Jackie of all Trades" (O'Fallon, MO USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Paper Crafts: Joy of Card Making, Collector's Edition (Leisure Arts #4606) (Hardcover)
I would rather make a card than buy one so I am always looking for ideas. Now I don't have to look any more. JOY OF CARD MAKING - COLLECTOR'S EDITION has it all. 200 plus pages provide ideas for weddings, gift tags, Hi, how are you cards, birthdays, graduation, invitations --- and I could go on and on but you get the idea.A photo of each card and a materials list provides you with everything you need to recreate an exact duplicate of the one in the book. BUT wait; why not add a touch of your own? Pick a different paper or add an embellishment the authors didn't and you have a creation all your own. A few of the supplies used by the authors are ribbon, cord, rickrack, paper (of course!!), buttons, ink, charms, paper flowers, wire, doll rods and wire mesh. I'm sure you can think of other things to use. There are special notes throughout labeled APPETIZING IDEAS, SECRET INGREDIENTS AND TIPS A LA DEE which provide suggestions for changing the look of the card. Templates are given in the back of the book and show each type (design) of card. They are not full sized but rather a layout suggestion. Card sizes are 4 ¼ x 5 1/2, 4 x 9, 3 3/8 x 6 and 3 x 3 ½. There are also unique shaped cards such as Christmas Trees, a Shirt Pocket, Luggage Tags and even a card that looks like an envelope. With this book and your supplies, you now have everything you need to create a one-of-a-kind, all-your-own card to send for the next time you need a card. Get a copy and start creating!

Joy of Card Making,
This review is from: Paper Crafts: Joy of Card Making, Collector's Edition (Leisure Arts #4606) (Hardcover)
I had found this book at our Public Library and found it a good source of new ideas for making cards. It went with a new approach by going with the set /basic design. I found it on Amazon and ordered it. I find my self using over and over again. The only draw back the not all info on how each card was created it there.

Purchased this book several months ago and when I received it I just glanced at it. Well with a mental block for Christmas cards I took a more in depth look and found a number of cards that were impressive without spending hours to get the result. A couple I would like to make but unfortunately some of the embellishments are not available locally, but my creative side has been looking at my stash to see what I can use as substitutes. I do not like what I call 'cluttered' cards so this book is ideal for me and I have been making cards for over 5 years.Aussie, Sydney Australia

There are a lot of these cards that I have marked that I want to make using them as templates--nothing elaborate, but very pretty. Probaby a 15-25 min. to make the 1st card and faster after that. Have looked through it more than 10 times and have only had it a few weeks. Lots of ideas!

This book has some great ideas for new cards. As this is my newest hobby I've found this book helps me to not only make their cards, it inspires me to modify the designs to add my own personal signature on my card designs. Recommend for both new and seasoned card makers.

I ordered this book thinking that it would give me more ideas for cards. I was disappointed, but I did not return it because it was too complicated to return. I don't recommend it if you are an experienced cardmaker. If you are a beginner, it would be great!

Joy of Card Making, Collector's Edition is one of the best cardmaking books I've owned so far. With so many designs, one can choose and adapt any of them that is suitable for an occasion. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in cardmaking.

I've seen, and own other books that better explain HOW the cards go together. This book is very vague on that. In the back, is an index of layouts, which is really nice, especially if you have problems creating themes that are balanced. Also, it seemed like a lot of the cards are made by sewing the paper, which I personally don't like or care for, but each card could probably be made without the stitching as well. I suppose it's an OK book.
