5.0 out of 5 stars A Roller Coaster Ride through Success and Failure.
As an Author, Coach, and Motivational Speaker I read alot of books about people, their motivations, and their relationships. LuAn Mitchell-Halter and Paper Doll get an A+ for the amazing story (if it were fiction people would never accept it), an A+ for the lessons learned, a B for the writing, and an A for the discussion points at the end of the book.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the 14 self serving images of this person Luan who wants us to believe that she is so spiritual. These are the actions of an ego driven person consumed with who they think they are. Luan...your words and actions don't match. The book smacked of a lot of events that don't really add up. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Roller Coaster Ride through Success and Failure., May 3, 2004
This review is from: Paper Doll: Lessons Learned from a Life Lived in the Headlines (Hardcover)

An unwed mother at 16,
a beauty queen,
working three jobs to make ends meet,
married to the company president,
husband diagnosed with terminal disease,
triple transplant extends husbands life,
boardroom battle with family members for control,
out of court settlement,
rug pulled out on financing...

and you're barely a third of the way through the book.

I do love a lot of the lessons learned:

- make a plan, follow your gut, find the good
- act from a position of hope and not fear
- define your dream
- surround yourself with alliances to support your dream
- no dream is achieved alone
- let your priorities lead
- giving back is tremendously rewarding

Finally, LuAn encourages readers to use the book for reading groups and provides a list of discussion questions. I recommend you get a copy of Paper Doll. I'm planning to get my mastermind team to do a group study of this inspiring story.

5.0 out of 5 stars a great read!, May 12, 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Paper Doll: Lessons Learned from a Life Lived in the Headlines (Hardcover)
Although PAPER DOLL is a memoir, it is also a teaching book. Divided into 11 chapters with titles such as: Listen to Your Instincts; Surround Yourself with People Who Inspire You; Define Your Dream; No Dream is Achieved Alone; Protect Your Power, etc., LuAn Mitchell-Halter quotes the newspaper headlines that tell her story, & spices the text with sidebars & planning agendas.

Certainly LuAn Mitchell-Halter has made a name for herself, from the one the girls at her school gave her, to her salad days as a beauty queen who spoke about women using their minds, to her days as a journalist & TV talk show host, & then to marrying one of the wealthiest, most eligible Canadian bachelors. After ten exciting & loving years, Fred suddenly dies during a routine medical checkup, & LuAn is left holding the ropes to a declining business & a hostile takeover bid...& turns that into a multi-million dollar partnership!

PAPER DOLL tells of not only how LuAn Mitchell-Halter survived the "slings & arrows" cast her way, it lets us into the secrets of her success.

Rebeccasreads highly recommends PAPER DOLL for the vitality & inspiration in LuAn Mitchell-Halter's rise from poverty to corporate executive, philanthropist & three-time Leading Woman Entrepreneur of the World.

I saw LuAn on the Cover of Macleans magazine... and read her story...

I have similar dilemas, this book was my reading "bible" of sorts...on a flight home... I found passages that hit right where I needed it.... and softened the blow where I wanted it...

LuAn, I was visiting my cousin in Ontario, and whining.. my workplace was getting to me, and my homelife was overwhelming at times.

she introduced me to your book...
This book helped me a lot. I will refer to it often.

Thanks...

What an amazing journey! Thank you for sharing your inspiration and story with concrete positive steps for ones own improvement. I read the book on an airplane, laughing and crying out loud, recognizing myself in more than one instance. At the end of the journey I passed the book along to the young female medical student sitting beside me on the plane, off to her first medical interview. As LuAns credo is to uplift and inspire others, it was the least I could do! I have since passed on other copies!!
Get it. Read it. Live it.
It feels good!
Bravo and keep it coming!

These are the actions of an ego driven person consumed with who they think they are. Luan...your words and actions don't match. The book smacked of a lot of events that don't really add up. Luan's deceased husband was known as a really great man who wouldn't be touting himself. He built the company in the first place...she didn't. I think the book makes too much of her alleged contributions to what was totally the work of Fred Mitchell and his grandfather.

I am bothered greatly by a review I read from a "Krystal". LuAn is a person who will, and has extended herself immensely to help and assist. She has accomplished great things, and I know that when her husband Fred Mitchell passed away she was left with a mega turnaround that was necessary in a company that was struggling...yes her husband's grandfather started the company and her late husband ran the operation as is brought forward in Paper Doll, however things happened where the company suffered and needed mending...LuAn did just this in a huge way, mainly to keep a place of employment going because her heart could not bear to see a company go down and many employees lose their jobs. Many of my friends have been greatly helped by reading Paper Doll, male and female. It is unfortunate that one person is so on the wrong track, she should read Paper Doll again, slowly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, February 23, 2004
This review is from: Paper Doll: Lessons Learned from a Life Lived in the Headlines (Hardcover)
"Paper Doll" is a journey of self-healing that everyone should take, whether you are simply having a bad day at the office or a loved one is battling a life-threatening illness. LuAn Mitchell-Halter shows you that if you keep your chin up, things do get better even when it seems they are at their worst.

Unlike other self-help books, "Paper Doll" doesn't just give you the recipe for making lemonade out of lemons. LuAn shares very personal stories of facing adversity from her own life to help you do the same in yours. She doesn't preach...she simply offers you the strength and advice to find personal success on your own terms.

By the end of the book, you not only know more about the woman who is LuAn Mitchell-Halter, but you know more about yourself as well.
