Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Origami's just the beginning in Paper-Folding Fun! 50 Awesome Crafts to Weave, Twist & Curl by Ginger Johnson, illus. by Betsy Day. Starting with "four steps to a perfect fold," the author leads readers on a crafting odyssey with instructions for making masterpieces such as a "Quilled Flower Mobile," "Pop-Up Birthday-Cake Card" and "Stacked Boxes with Bead Knobs." Also available: All Around Town: Exploring Your Community Through Craft Fun by Judy Press.

From Booklist

Gr. 3-5. From the Kids Can series, this craft book shows children how to use paper to make a wide range of objects such as books, jewelry, cards, mobiles, mats, and boxes. The presentation is practical. Each project begins with a picture of the finished product, a list of materials, and good, step-by-step directions. The black-and-white illustrations are mainly utilitarian, clearly showing the materials needed and the process of making each craft. Those pictures feature a commendably diverse cast, including a boy in a wheelchair as well as kids from various racial groups. A good bet for teachers and scout leaders, this shows how to make a number of appealing projects using inexpensive and readily available materials. Carolyn Phelan

2.0 out of 5 stars A So-so book, April 9, 2009
This review is from: Paper-Folding Fun!: 50 Awesome Crafts to Weave, Twist & Curl (Williamson Kids Can Books) (Paperback)
I ordered this book because of the quilled flower mobile on the cover-- I thought it was a really neat idea, and kids always seem to be fascinated by quilling. The mobile ended up being the only project in the book worth using. The rest of the projects were either really basic (who hasn't folded a paper box at some point? do we really need 10 variations on the same box?) or useless. (Does anyone really need a big paper sun?) I would skip buying this one.
