Book Description

June 15, 2000
Paper in Harmony is an instructional book geared towards the advanced origami folder. By combining his interest in music with the ancient art of origami, Marc has devised blueprints for creating an entire orchestra from paper. You can follow the path in folding these works of art yourself with the aid of over one thousand illustrations. There are also chapters to aid you with paper choice and preparation. Athough this is admittedly one of the more advanced books available for origami, with patience, you can recreate such models as a drummer, pianist, and even a couple dancing.

There are no animal pictures, no flowers, no dinosaurs. Instead, a heavy-metal guitarist leaps across the cover... -- Daniel Scher, OrigamiUSA's The Paper

About the Author

For well over two decades, Marc Kirschenbaum has derived great pleasure from origami, the ancient Japanese art of paper folding. Throughout the years, Marc has managed to design hundreds of original origami works. A number of these works have won awards, and have been featured in libraries and museums around the world (most notably the Smithsonian and the American Museum of Natural History). By trade, Marc is an active partner in an executive recruiting firm for computer professionals, located not far from his place of residence in New York City. Marc is also an active member of OrigamiUSA, a premiere international origami organization. He is currently on the board of directors, and manages the production of many of this organization's publications.

5.0 out of 5 stars A most excellent book!, August 26, 2000

Marc Kirschenbaum's book is a wonderful collection of origami models with a fantastic theme. The models are high intermediate in difficultly, but clearly diagrammed and should prove a pleasant challenge for experienced folders. The theme of all musicians is delightful and unique among origami collections! In addition, Mr. Kirschenbaum has prefaced each model with insights to his creative process as well as friendly folding tips which anticipate the trickier folding manoeuvres he's created. This really gives the books a personal touch and makes the diagrams much more accessible. Thank you for creating such a wonderful book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Genious!, July 4, 2005

The author combines a series of various origami techniques (box pleating being the most predominant) to create lifelike musicians out of uncut paper squares (only two exceptions: the dollar bill guitarrist and the awesome leaping guitarrist that is made of a rectangle). It is a challenging book, but perseverance will be rewarded! Instructions were extremelly well written. A definitive must for someone looking for a uniquely themed book (other than the many other books devoted to animals and geometric patterns) and also a great guide to develop multiple paperfolding techniques! Great work Marc! A true masterpiece!

This book is totally awesome! Really hard origami, though. Still, if you can do it, the models are totally impressive.
