If you love tormented emotional states, you'll enjoy "Paper Lovers",

I don't typically buy the romance novels. This book is not a "bodice ripper" as its title suggests, with the wild and steamy romance of the garden variety romance novel. It looks into the relationship of a woman attracted to a man who is actually a psychopath, and runs through the emotional and intellectual twist and turns as their relationship progresses. If you want a psychological thriller that delves into intimate relationships, pick this book.

An Ingenious Plot,
By
This review is from: Paper Lovers (Paperback)
The ingenious plot of C.B. Knadle's book, Paper Lovers, maintains a rapid-paced tension that kept me on tenterhooks from beginning to end. Will she, or won't she? The intriguing psychological twists and turns led me bit by inexorable bit to finally accept the astounding turn-around ending. A sideline plus is the intimate look at how writers work, toss ideas around and discuss plot developments. I hope that Knadle will continue to write books of this fine caliber.

Only in Manhattan.,
This review is from: Paper Lovers (Paperback)
I'm reading a book on my shelf purchased to support a friend.
I was too busy to read it till now, let it sit with the many other books on the shelf I'll get to. I began to read it a few days ago and . . . I can't put it down. The writing is so good, I'm enjoying it thoroughly! If I'm not busy reading it, I'm in a state of looking forward to it. It's that well written. I highly recommend this book, a woman's book or sensitive man's. It's called Paper Lovers, by Charlene Knadle. Great for discussion in a Book Club, that's what I told the woman on the train to NYC who said the book her book club has her reading is boring, and wanted to know what I was so engrossed in. I feel so "inside my head", living inside of Dana's for the last few days. I like that feeling, it helps me get work done, helps me write. Thanks Charlene. PS: The ending is interesting. Only in Manhattan!

I enjoyed Paper Lovers. When I had to mark my place, I found I couldn't wait to get back to the book to
find out what happens next. In my mind, this indicates the story has a good plot -- a great premise. I found the story line to be original and entertaining. I definitely look forward to reading another one of this author's work and hope to soon. Paper Lovers could be worthy of a sequel. This book is a great read on the beach!

Reads like a movie!!!,
This review is from: Paper Lovers (Paperback)
Reading 'Paper Lovers' was like reading a great romance novel combined with
suspense, also for meta-writing lovers there was a lot of writing about writers and process. For me it read very much like a compelling movie starring Clive Owens and Kiera Knightly five or six fine supporting actresses for example Judi Dench as the women in the workshop portion of the plot. Not too many writers take on a group of writers as a plot, but there are so many of us out there!!! As a writer myself I found the characters original and fresh, the plot compelling and it definitely left me wanting more. I will be very excited when they make a movie out this novel and Charlene becomes the next Agatha Christie with a modern twist. Very truly Kelly Powell

A DIFFERENT KIND OF LOVE STORY,
By
This review is from: Paper Lovers (Paperback)
If you love wonderful writing and enjoy suffering along with your protagonist, PAPER LOVERS is a good choice for you. Ms. Knadle has crafted a romance novel about the romance genre that satisfied this romance hater. Go figure. Read this novel in a book group or at least with a friend so you can discuss (or fistfight) over the moral question.

Superbly Crafted,
This review is from: Paper Lovers (Paperback)
In C.B. Knadle's mesmerizing psychological novel, "Paper Lovers," the author introduces us to a heroine reluctantly being outfitted with a metaphorical burka. And we can't help but stare as tantalizingly, she refuses to let the thing stay put.
I wouldn't presume to detail the plot of this very special story of resistance to domination (with some revealing introspection thrown in) except to note that "Charlotte" isn't the only intriguing woman being pent up close in "Roberta Rhodes's" literary harem. She is, however, "Newest to the leash," and therefore the logical focus of our attention. Anyone who's ever written a book ... or even wondered what it must be like to do so ... simply must read this cleverly crafted tale. Knadle (who writes like a dream) examines the creative writing process from a unique angle and defines it with a depth heretofore unsounded in the suspense genre. Jeb Ladouceur, author: The Palindrome Plot; Calamity Hook; Frisco; The Banana Belt; Sparrowbush.

Clever plot kept me turning the pages,
By
This review is from: Paper Lovers (Paperback)
The beginning of Paper Lovers took me by surprise and had me glued to the book until the last page. The psychological nature of the plot was intriguing and I wondered how far the author would take the story. Pretty far, it turns out. This is definitely not a conventional romance. As I was enjoying the story, I began to see signs that it was an allegory about the romance novel industry. I don't know if the author intended this. However, reading the story in this way made the ending more acceptable to me. I wish I could explain that in more detail, but I don't want to give too much away. Paper Lovers would be a great book for a reading group; there's so much to analyze. I'm looking forward to Knadle's next book.

A great story. A good read. A plot that keeps you turning pages.,
By Bettye Hughes "Book Lover" (New York City , NY) - See all my reviews

Much more than your typical romance, abduction, imprisonment and intellectual seduction. More layers than your typical suspense novel - escape vs. capitulation, justice vs. forgiveness. A psychological roller coaster plummeting toward an unpredictable ending.
