I love "real" pencils. They're not the most "sustainable" choice, but there's something satisfying about them--writing, rolling them between the fingers, sharpening them.

The old Berol Mirado #2.5 were great, but Papermate evidently bought the name and changed the formula. Unfortunately, these are not the #2.5 Berol Mirado of old. They're really #2. Too soft for me.

I found these pencils to be firmer than standard #2 pencils, but not as firm as I remember 2.5's being. Next time I might try some drafting pencils since they apparently come in #3.

These are a great pencil for finish carpentry work. The price is right and the #2.5 lead doesn't break nearly as often/easily as a #2. Stays sharp longer and is easily sharpened with a utility knife.

They are pencils. What's not to like? Actually, there can be a difference -- as inferior pencils don't always sharpen well. The reason I got the 2.5 instead of the classic 2 is because I have a big box of erase ends -- the kind you push over the end of a pencil, and they don't stay on the #2 pencils. (Except for one -- which is where I noticed the bigger size pencil.) Not a big deal, but it was driving me nuts!

How often can you solve a problem that is driving you nuts by spending a few extra pennies?

These are good quality. Sharpen well. Worth the extra pennies.

I already have Mirado #2's which have softer lead than I prefer but was running low on my Mirado #2.5's so I ordered these. A bit disappointed that these particular #2.5's are at least as soft as the #2's that I already have. Doesn't seem to be much correlation between the # rating and the actual lead.
