I like this pen very much and find myself searching for this exact pen when I need to replace my pens. I like the 1.4 mm point because it makes a bold ball point line that looks close to a fountain pen type of line. It writes easily and smoothly on all kinds of paper textures. This is important to me because I spend a lot of time handwriting on charts and hospital records so fatigue is an issue. Only downside is that the ink does tend to run out sooner than most ballpoint pens and towards the end of its life, it gets a little goopy so you might get inkspots on your paper which is why it gets 4 instead of 5 stars. However, if you're like me, you're more likely to lose your pens before they run out of ink so it's seldom an issue.

I just bought this pen from Office Max yesterday. I was actually already in line at the register waiting to pay for a pack of BIC ReAction 1.0 pens, when I saw the Papermate Profile 1.4B pen on the rack. I took it and scribbled on a notepad. Amazing! But wait, I thought, maybe it was just the notepad giving the illusion that the pen wrote so smoothly.. I grabbed a much "rougher" sheet of paper that was lying around near the counter and wrote on it using this pen. Still amazing! I love the deep, dark bold ink and how it glides smoothly on any type/textured paper without effort. The only complaint I have is that it sometimes get "blotchy" initially when you have not used the pen for a while. But this doesn't really bother me all that much. I just love this pen and I can't stop writing with it! I find any excuse just to scribble something down. I bought the 4-pack, and I'm already thinking about going back to purchase more!

You get what you pay for with most things most of the time, and this four-pack of black "clickable" pens (PaperMate no. 89471) is no exception; just remember to pull off the little plastic bead at the tip of each of these pens before you start writing. This model Profile is a ballpoint pen, but the thick black line (1.44mm) and easy laydown are more reminiscent of gel pens. The sleek gray barrel, comfort grip and retractability argue gel, as well. I have to wonder if the little plastic bead that has to be removed is really integral to the functioning of this pen, or just an affectation carried over from the gel family? Your first downstroke after the pen has been resting for a while may not be perfect -- a common trait of ballpoints but not gel pens. I can say that this pen does particularly well at making copysets (duplicate-form personal checks, for example) because you can bear down hard if necessary, and the line is thick and bold enough that I can address small- and medium-sized kraft envelopes with impunity. At about a ten percent discount from retail, Amazon's current price is respectable but dyed-in-the-wool bargain-hunters may want to shop around more. Zebra, Bic, Pentel, Foray and even Uni-Ball, among others, all market pens in this general price range.

These PaperMate Profile pens were manufactured in Korea and marketed by PaperMate, a part of the Sanford Brands office-products company, which itself is part of Newell Rubbermaid, a home-products conglomerate headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The maker does not claim that this pen produces check-writing that can't be "washed" off by forgers and identity thieves.

I actually find myself searching for these pens in my house even if I have a regular BIC right in front of me ... they write smoothly and evenly and don't take a minute to "get started" like BICs that have been sitting around for awhile. They're smooth writing with fast drying ink that is very easy to read on white paper. Just remember to pick off the little wax nub on the tip of the pen before using. :)

I really like how these pens write. I don't like thin points, and this has a nice solid thick point. I just wish the ink lasted onger

I like these pens and it helps my handwriting to be more clear. I did a lot of manual labor in my youth, which took a toll on my wands and handwriting.
