5.0 out of 5 stars Not a waste of cash or resources!
Like anything of quality, this pencil was made for those people who are willing to go a little above and beyond for superior writing apparatuses. The box says Non-Refillable, but human society is currently constructing a 167 story building somewhere in the Middle East (Dubai?), so I think anyone of average intelligence should be able to find a way around this...

3.0 out of 5 stars The writing tip wobbles
My office got these, and I didn't like them. Something, whether it's that twist top or the "cushion point system," makes it feel like the lead is loose. You know how sometimes with a standard pencil the lead breaks off below the level of the wood but doesn't fall out, and you can still write with it but it feels a bit loose and wobbly? That's what these things are like...

To Refill: Remove the pink eraser from top of the pencil. Extract the inner workings of this modern piece of technology, namely the steel spring and embedded black plastic stopper. Affix your .07mm lead to the bottom of the black plastic stopper, it should fit snuggly in place and turn the stopper until the entire piece of lead is within the steel spring. Replace the spring and push firmly back into place. I used a small paper clip for this action. And voila! Your Non-Refillable pencil is now refilled

Now shame on tree hugging hippies who are never willing to go the extra mile to look good and be comfortable while trying to save the environment!

5.0 out of 5 stars The only thing I write with..., July 17, 2008
This review is from: Paper Mate Sharpwriter 0.7mm Mechanical Pencils, 12 Yellow Pencils (3030131) (Office Product)
Suffice to say, that when I misplace my sharpwritter I go to great lengths to try finding it back. When I don't find it, my day becomes miserable. I love it. It writes well - just like a pencil. Unlike a pencil it erases perfectly. And unlike any other (expensive or not) mechanical pencil I have used, the lead doesn't break. That is the hidden beauty of this product - the control you have on the length of the lead coming out of the pencil. I have become good @ it to pull it out enough to be able to write a long time, but not so much as to break the lead. I have, however, seen other people borrowing it from me, pulling the lead too long and breaking it. In addition to the deft use, I believe the lead of sharpwritter is stronger than that of the other products - another reason for it not breaking that often (or never in my case).

4.0 out of 5 stars Nothing fancy, just a reliable, affordable mechanical pencil, February 2, 2008

This is my favorite cheap pencil. The product page description is sparse - I've just received my order, so with package in hand, here are the details.
This pencil comes in a box of 12, with a lead diameter of 0.7 mm. Although it's non-refillable, the lead lasts a long time. It has a twist tip lead advance, and a cushion point which adjusts to writing pressure. The red eraser makes a smeary mess; I replace it with the white type of eraser.
Why go to the trouble for such a cheap pencil? This slim, light pencil is very comfortable to use, I like the twist-tip feed, and the cushion point REALLY WORKS. I never break the lead in this work-horse.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite pencil, November 19, 2004
This review is from: Paper Mate Sharpwriter 0.7mm Mechanical Pencils, 12 Yellow Pencils (3030131) (Office Product)
I've been using the Paper Mate Sharpwriter Non-refillable Mechanical Pencil for many years. It's the only one I use. I hate regular wood pencils and I don't like those expensive refillable pencils either. I also don't like any mechanical pencil where you click the eraser part to bring out more 'lead'. For example, I tried one by BIC with the clicky eraser and I hated it including how it felt in my hand. I like the twist mechanism of the Paper Mate Sharpwriter the best. Twist it in for travel and twist it back out again for use. Perfect. I also like this pencil because it's not heavy and the outside is rounded and smooth which doesn't hurt my fingers.

I don't abuse things I own, so I never have trouble with my pencils breaking on the inside. I have nothing bad to say about this pencil, it's great just the way it is. It's affordable, easy to use, and as with any mechanical pencil, it's always sharp. I love having a pencil that is always ready to use and this one is better than all others I have tried.

5.0 out of 5 stars Choose These, June 29, 2010

Effectively cheap, works every time, and free shipping. You literally cannot go wrong with this purchase. I keep them in my desk at work to take phone messages and the like. A few people stopping by have asked if I had a pen or pencil for loan. I have happily given them one of these because they are so inexpensive. 3 out of 4 have come back and asked where I got them so they could get a pack of their own. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best, October 12, 2011

These mechanical pencils are the best I have ever used. They seem to hold up better than most mechanical pencils. Your typical mechanical pencil has a click the top to let out led way in which it works. With these pencils you twist the tip and I find this method much more sturdy and precise. I find the led breaks much less often due to the fact it has a twist adjustable tip and 0.7 led size. Not only is the quality of these pencils greater than that of ANY other led pencil I have used, they are extremely cheap at 12 for around $4 you are only paying about 33 cents per pencil, where as some mechanical pencils charge you $4+ for a single pencil. In my opinion these are by far the best mechanical pencil and you can't go wrong by buying them.

As far back as I can remember (maybe not that far back) the Paper Mate SharpWriter has been my favorite mechanical pencil, and I'm not even a mechanic.

What's so special about this particular mechanical pencil? I like the feel, looks, and performance of the Sharpwriter. The "lead" is not overly thin so that it doesn't break as readily as the lead on other pencils. Mostly I like how the lead is advanced. Instead of an eraser end clicking mechanism, the SharpWriter contains a more precise turning device at the writing end. Lead can be advanced or retracted slowly to achieve the exact length desired with a gentle twist. In years past I would twist and shout, but now I just quietly twist.

I even like the erasers on these pencils. They attach to the pencil body snugly and outlast the lead. Of course, that could be because I make so few mistakes when I write.

The price for these pencils on Amazon is terrific and the pencils were assembled in the USA.

They're cheap, they're comfortable, and the lead never breaks. What more do you want from a pencil? I suppose it would be nice to refill them but that would just make me care if I lost one.

I am aware that posting a comment about cheap plastic pencils could seem weird, but I have used those consistently for more than 10 years.
Since the graphite is mounted on a spring, it doesn't break, even when you write like a maniac.
I love those. I hope they'll never stop making them.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only pencil I use for everything!, November 27, 2011

Everything about this product is great. I borrowed it once from my uncle and never returned it. When it ran out of lead, I just HAD to order a pack of my own. The pencil writes dark which is really helpful when you need to read what you wrote. You can adjust the lead to whatever you want. Finally the lead is strong.
This is the only pencil i use. As a college students, I have even switched over from pens to pencil because of this. I also use this pencils on scantrons and never have had a problem.
Normally the trouble i had with other mechanical pencils is that the lead would break easily while writing and the eraser sucked. This pencil has an exceptional lead. I have been using it for while and the lead hasn't broke once. The eraser is phenomenal as well, it completely erases what you wrote/drew.
You twist the tip to extend or retract the lead. I heard the you can refill the pencil, but c'mon its only $3.28/12 pencils = ~.27 cents a pencil. I'll just order a new pack when I'm done. And oh yes, these pencils last for a while. I don't lend this pencil out too often. Can't take the chance of not getting it back.
