This is one of the best of the mechanical pencils in my opinion. Reasons:
1. It has a retractable point so it doesn't poke holes in your shirt.
2. It has a large, long eraser that can be raised or lowered by simply twisting the barrel.
3. The area where you hold the pencil is cushioned and comfortable.
4. The shirt clip is metal instead of plastic and is reasonably strong. I must have fifty pens and pencils around the house with broken clips that were plastic.
This is a well made pencil at a great price. I only have two small complaints. The back part of the pencil rotates too easily thereby feeding out the eraser when you don't want it to do so. Secondly, the shirt clip appears to be stronger on the older Sanford model. This is a minor issue and I could well be wrong as I haven't bent or broken the clip on either pencil.
Lastly, the mechanical design of this pencil appears to be very strong. I have used one daily for some time. It has never broken or failed to feed the lead. In other words they work reliably.

Buy this pencil!

I have been using this pencil since I found one by chance in sixth grade.(2000)
These pencils have taken me through middle, high, and college, and still in use in my professional life.
I have not been able to find a better pencil.

They used to have metal clips, which were then turned into plastic, and the shape is a little more refined, but the pencil is still the best I have ever used.

-Long eraser life
-Comfortable grip
-Great weight
-Balanced really well for pencil spinning

I really recommend these pencils!

I know they are pricey at $5, but as a student I would go through one a year. Maybe two if I had some intensive note taking.

The grip will eventually stretch out so that it slips over the metal tip, which to me, means it is time to get a new one.

Seriously, Try this pencil. Its such a good product that I felt compelled to write a review for it on amazon.

I've ordered probably 6 different mechanical pencils and I think this is the best yet. The two features I've been looking for are the retractable tip and large eraser. The retracting tip is essential so it doesn't stab me in the thigh when I have it in my pocket. I hate the tiny erasers on my other pencils and I feel like I have to use them sparingly, which practically defeats the purpose of using a pencil. The eraser on this pencil is exceptional because it is very long and it retracts and extends when you twist the cap and there is enough of it that I can erase without worrying about wearing the eraser down to a nub. If only I could get a blinged out version.

Big eraser, the sharp point as well as the pencil lead retracts into the body so it doesn't poke holes in things, it holds several extra leads. It's a little fragile and I've broken a few. But it's far the best of many I've tried.

For the price, this pencil just can't be beat. It is constructed very well, and is heavier than other pencils at this price (which I like). It's also balanced very well, which is good for pencil spinners like me. The tip is retractable so it won't poke you when it is in a pocket or wherever, and the pencil's large eraser is great for erasing; I don't feel guilty when I use it's eraser, which sometimes happens when I use the dinky erasers on other pencils.

I find that I write better with this pencil than any other pencil. I think that it might be because the pencil has some "give", where it allows me to push the lead into a little bit if I apply pressure. This causes my writing to be smoother, and it even feels more comfortable to write with it.

All in all, seriously think about buying this pencil; I highly recommend it.

I've long been a big fan of the twist-erase style erasers on Papermate pencils, and have used several packs of Twist Erase II and Twist Erase XP to the point where the rubber grippy part eventually wears out. Decided to splurge a little on a pack of the titanium line, and lo and behold, the eraser mechanism on this model is too smart by half. The part the pencil barrel twists clockwise to extend the eraser, as with the other models mentioned, but with the Titanium model this twisting action has so little friction that normal use of the eraser causes the barrel to twist counter-clockwise and the eraser retracts back into the pencil. Have never had this problem with any other twist-erase cousins. Very unfortunate.
