Hiding her beauty by posing as a dowdy schoolmarm, independent Janice Harrison nevertheless catches the eye of Peter Mulloney, who longs to prove himself to his wealthy family.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Though it is labeled a romance, readers will have difficulty finding anything romantic about Rice's 1885 Texas spin-off of Paper Roses. Janice Harrison is a bitter, dowdy schoolmarm trying to support herself and her little sister. Peter Mulloney, a dreamer out to prove his worth to his family, comes to town looking for a banker friend to finance a gold mine. Janice remembers Peter from her youth; his rich father destroyed her family's life. Despite old grievances, when Peter is wrongly accused of arson, Janice risks her reputation and her job to prove his innocence, and ends up his wife. While there's plenty of plot, including the kidnapping of Janice's secret baby, the story lacks the romantic energy and enthusiasm needed to make it more than a mediocre read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to end the trilogy, July 17, 2000
This review is from: Paper Moon (Paperback)
Paper Moon, the third and final book in the Paper trilogy, was a wonderful read. We met the main character, Janice Harrison, in the book Paper Tiger. She is a strong, independant woman who, after spending too much time at the wrong end of town, is trying to find a way in life for her and her fragile sister, Betsy. She meets up with the rich, handsome Peter Mulloney, also from Paper Tiger, when her house burns to the ground in an unfortunate accident. Peter has just gotten over a terrible break-up with his fiancee and is trying to prove to his family that he can make it in the world on his own. The main characters must overcome their vastly different pasts and reveal secrets that they wanted to keep hidden, in order to find a love that they find frightening but is the rarest treausure treasure in a lifetime of dreams.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good ending to the Paper trilogy!, April 1, 2004
By
This review is from: Paper Moon (Paperback)
This book is heartwarmingly tender. You'll root for Janice as she is learning to love after a lifetime of struggles and heartaches and that Peter is the perfect man to show her how.

Be sure to read the first book, Paper Roses and the second book, Paper Tiger. A great trilogy!
