Book Description

Simple, delightful reproducible patterns put the emphasis on fun in this Evan-Moor Crafts title that contains 26 projects for kindergarten through third grade students.

Help your students increase manual dexterity and learn the names and shapes of a wide range of animals that include: monkey, bat, beaver, bear, pig, dog, koala, mouse, duck, cat, cow, lion, frog, lamb, brontosaurus, bunny, penguin, hippo, toucan, skunk, crocodile, squirrel, kangaroo, elephant, giraffe, and dragon.

Every animal can be formed around a paper tube, which might otherwise be discarded. Just three or four easy steps and you will have paper tube characters that can serve many functions in your classroom. All you need to provide are toilet paper roll tubes, glue, and crayons.

There are so many uses for your paper tube projects:
* Finger Puppets -- Use in storytelling or retelling favorite literature
* Bulletin Board Displays -- Pin the characters in a line to create a border
* Desk Companions -- Tape the paper roll characters to students' desks to hold pencils, flash cards, sentence strips, or behavior rewards.

Looking for more art projects to help students learn and express themselves? Consider these Evan-Moor titles: Craftworks for Kids series (EMC 228, 231, 720-724), ArtWorks for Kids series (EMC 291-296), How to Teach Art to Children (EMC 260), Holiday Fun (EMC 742) and Seasonal Activities (EMC 103).

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy, fun way to make animals from paper tubes., June 11, 2008
This review is from: Paper Tube Zoo (Paperback)
This book contains the patterns and instructions to make 36 animals using the tubes of the tissue paper. Animals are really easy to make, and if you use them with older kids, they shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to assemble (especially if you provide them with the patterns photocopied on color paper). For each animal, it contains a short poem and a writing prompt to encourage kids to develop their writing skills.

Some of the animals are really cute like the beaver, the raccoon, the koala, the cow, the pig and the lion. Others are a little rough, like the panda (a very small head), the mouse (very long legs), the bear (very thin arms and legs). However, overall, you will obtain very nice products and kids will love them. They are perfect to use as puppets, to teach about animals, to have kids sort the animals into types, to discuss habitats, to give as treats for kids, and much more. Your imagination is the limit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good idea for tissue tubes! Can be used at school/home!, April 30, 2000
By A Customer
I had seen a few pages of this book from other teachers at my school. I was very happy to be able to find it here & ordered my own copy! This book has a variety of animals which can be colored in, cut, and then attached to toilet tissue rolls. Save those tissue rolls & recycle! This book is a great value and would make a very nice gift for your child's teacher.
