5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece, September 7, 2011
This review is from: The Papers of General Nathanael Greene: Vol. XI: 7 April - 30 September 1782 (Hardcover)
This volume covers how the Revolution wound down in the South.

The academic team that has annotated the papers of Revolutionary Gen. Nathanael Greene has done an incredible job. Although I started working with the Greene volumes as a reference, I ended up reading a couple of them for pleasure. From the editors' explanation of how they've transliterated the original letters, to the glossary, the cross references, the annotations, and the explanations, they've opened up a world that would otherwise have been closed to all but the most specialized academics.

As for Greene himself, take out the 18th century random capitalization and punctuation, and you discover a modern man, sarcastic at times, often frustrated, with fast friendships, and a difficult job.
