For the serious orchid lover,
By
This review is from: Paphiopedilum: A Monograph of All Tropical and Subtropical Asiatic Slipper-Orchids (Hardcover)
This 1988 book is for the serious Asiatic slipper orchid lover and grower. Written both in German and in English, the text is often incomprehensible to those that don't know orchids and their cultivation. For instance this is from page 40: "Paphiopedilum micranthum is an herbaceous plant and grows as an epiphyte in leaf mold. The plant has a distinctly prolonged rhizome, fleshy roots and four to five leaves per growth. The leaves are ligulate, obtuse, leathery; upper and under surface glabrous." This example should give you a good idea of what you can expect with the prose. And if you read German you can read the same sentence in that language! The book is a comprehensive academic study of the tropical and subtropical Asiatic Slipper-Orchids. It contains some lovely illustrations to compliment the prose.
