5.0 out of 5 stars Le Papillon, July 13, 2005
This review is from: Le Papillon (French Version - No Eng Subs) (DVD)
I am so happy to see this DVD being offered in the US. I have been waiting since I saw this film in France so that I can share this film experience with my own young grandchild. This is a charming, heart-warming story starring one of France's leading actors, Michel Serrault. A new neighbor, a young child, Eva, attaches herself to this unwilling, retired gentleman when her mother neglects to return home one evening. She stows away in his car as he sets off to find a rare female butterfly (le papillon).. We follow them along in their search and are engaged in their developing grandfather/granddaughter relationship with this irrasible older gentleman, who feels burdened by this child, and this eager young child who is experiencing her first visit to the countryside. We are pulled into the story by the exchange between the two of life's insights, such as the gentleman's explanation of a nightmare: it is like children, at first they are a dream and later, they become a nightmare. The viewer hopes for a good resolution when we discover that the search is on for this "abducted" child. Sit down with your children or grandchildren and enjoy this wonderful film.
