5.0 out of 5 stars Papillon (Kennel Club Dog Breed Series)
I have owned five senior "rescue Paps" in the past six years. Now I have a 15 month old puppy and a nine year old Pap who had been the alpha dog, but that was before we got our baby. This is like nothing I have experienced before or in many, many years...its like having a baby whose every action depends on me. To say she's a joy is to put it mildly, she's a nuisance,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Some good, some very bad
This is quite a good book if you are completely new to the breed and plan to read other books as well... There are some factual mistakes (like when the author describes the Phalène-variation of the breed - completely wrong) but there are also some good general information. I wouldn't recommend it though. There are other books better to read (the Complete Papillon)...

This is like nothing I have experienced before or in many, many years...its like having a baby whose every action depends on me. To say she's a joy is to put it mildly, she's a nuisance, but I love it and having this book as my handy reference has been a life saver. I have had seniors in the past who just joined the household, but this tiny little Pap whose energy is almost overwhelming.. . and this book have helped when I wondered if I had done the right thing.

A complete and comprehensive look at Papillions. I learned so much. My Papillion and I are very close and will be great pals for a very long time because of the tips I learned from this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars not on the top of my list for papillons, February 9, 2012
I recently bought this book from a local pet shop and read it cover to cover. I have read a other books on papillons and found most of the information to be the same, I enjoyed the history of the breed that was in this book. However, the training section seems to be a little off in comparison to what I have read in other books, watched in videos, and learned from talking to breeders. The author suggests that training your dog to come to the word "come" is not as successful as training to the phrase "Where are you?" but realistically, the dog is learning a sound and whatever sound you use to mark the behavior you want shouldn't matter. The author also gives "real-life examples" to back up the information, but never cites any of them or even relates them to the breed, which bothered me a lot. It does have a lot of good pictures and some interesting information for general dog health but I would be wary and not let this be the only book you read on papillons, and definitely pick up another book if you are interested in learning about training.

This book is interesting, informative and helpful. There are always questions when the new puppy arrives and this book has lots of answers--it's a great place to get started with learning about your new pal.

This is a great book for Papillon owners, however, it is often mistaken as being AKC sanctioned. It is not related, in any way to the AKC. Still this book is great for Papillon Owners.
