3.0 out of 5 stars SMALL!!!!!
The picture of this item makes it look large, and yes if you actually bothered to look at the dimensions you might understand that it is small, but even given the dimensions this toy is TINY!!
It is still fun and the movable mouth is pretty neat. It does seem to be a quality item and realistic but don't buy this if you are looking for a larger toy. Also I feel the...

Well, this is a special find. I obsess on dinos here and again, and always like toys to look at to help me imagine the dinos more thoroughly. I also like to display toys of current interests - monsters and the such. Finding a good, realistic dino is hard to come by!! I tried doing a few models, but am not the modeling type - - so when I stumbled across the Papo dinosaurs, it was like a gift!! These are sturdy, durable, extremely realistic toys - and my first one was the lovely Velociraptor. It's great! A realistic, mature depiction of what a real Raptor might look like - and the working jaw is nice, but it's a display toy; meant more for office spaces at work, or a desktop (for an adult) than it is for a kid. It's nice to not have them so articulated, as it adds to the realism of the creature and pose. The JPark toys were horrible, and not very good representations of realistic dinos. The Papo creatures are just right if you want a good, adult dino to spark your imagination. Great, great toys - you can't get 'em any better than this!!

This is a great figure. Highly detailed and accurate (very Jurassic park Lost World-ish).
It would be nice if it was larger, but this still a great figure and a must have for any dinosaur fanatic.

Papo's Velociraptor is another exquisite entry in their series of dinosaur figures. As the title says, it is not 100% accurate. It does not have the feathers now associated with the raptors, but, as the figure is clearly inspired by the Velociraptors in "Jurassic Park," this is acceptable. and with such wonderful sculpted details, who can complain too much about that?
The other big inaccuracy is the positioning of the hands. As sculpted, they with the palms facing the body. Velociraptors could not actually turn their hands this way; they were fixed in position with the palms facing each other, as if the raptor was about to put his hands together and pray. Still, most of us are not so uptight about a few inaccuracies as to let it ruin an otherwise fantastic figure. As with Allosaurus, the interior of the moth is painted with a glossy paint, giving it a lifelike moist appearance. The hinged jaw will hold any position perfectly(personally, I prefer keeping it nearly closed, with a bit of the teeth visible). The combination of the sculpt and paint give this raptor's eyes an intelligent look that is a bit unsettling; he appears to be dissecting you with his eyes! This is excellent work by Papo.
At about 4" tall, it is not in scale with other Papo products, such as Allosaurus, but it's perfectly in scale with any 12th-scale action figures you may have. As with other Papo figures, some of the claws have pretty sharp points, so I wouldn't recommend this figure for young children. (Or at least filing the points down a bit if you child wants it that much!)

This particular Velociraptor toy is an exquisite detailed replica of what the prehistoric reptile might have looked like in real life. The attention to detail is superior to a great many of toys. Plus, having the ability to open and close the mouth is a wonderful asset to the toy.

These are REALLY well done pieces. I guess technically they are toys but since they have no moving parts except their jaws and are posed in a cinematic action quality, I'd really just consider them very nicely priced collectibles. If you are a fan of Jurassic Park, or just dinosaurs in general, both the raptor and t-rex look straight out of The Lost World. Way better looking than any actual JP toy. And these cheap, mass-produced little toys put my 250 dollllar SideShow Collectibles Jurassic Park Diorama to shame. The paint job on that looks almost like a happy meal toy compared to these. Definite recommendation for any dino fan.

Alright, first off, the only reason I dropped the educational value of this toy down to 3 stars because...well, it's not a Velociraptor mongoliensis. Now, while this is obviously based on the Jurassic Park movie raptors, which is fine, it is still Deinonychus antirrhopus. Again, this isn't the fault of Papo, it's the fault of Michael Crichton(God rest his soul) and Steven Spielberg. Now, moving on to the rest of it. While smaller than most of the old Jurassic Park raptor toys, Papo has sculpted a remarkably realistic representation of the movie raptors. The coloration is spot on with the raptors from The Lost World, and the sculpt is perfect, right down to the bottoms of the feet. I especially liked that the finish on the mouth made it look like it was moist. The hinge on the mouth isn't quite as well hidden as the pictures made it seem, but it's still a lot nicer looking than the old JP/TLW/JPIII raptor toys. I was also impressed by the addition of a false palate at the back of the mouth to simulate a throat. And the fact that the hinge, even after quite a bit of moving open and closed, still holds in place is very impressive. Very fine toy, and I plan on purchasing more Papo products. In fact, I hope that they do a Dilophosaurus in the future, I would definitely grab one of those.

This is a great replica of the Velociraptor. The detail is outstanding. I bought it mainly for 3D modeling reference material, and I was not disappointed. The quality is equal to that of Stan Winston Studios or ILM. It's not a very big toy, but it more than makes up for it with it's attention to detail. It stands on it's own feet, and the jaw unhinges as well. I challenge you to find a better toy dinosaur.

5.0 out of 5 stars JP Pinball Mod, January 14, 2009

I have a JP pinball machine and I bought this velociraptor to add to the machine. For those of you familiar with the machine, this mounts right over the raptor pit with some floral wire and a screw.

I also bought a Triceratops and mounted it over the ball diverter on the ramp.

It really looks neat, and it balances out the Pteranodons that the machine came with.
