A friend from California introduced us to this seasoning and since then, it is a must have for my kitchen. It adds a nice zing to a variety of dishes; to season steak & B-que, in spagetti sauce, chili, etc. Pretty much anything I cook that is beef or pork has some Pappy's seasoning in the dish. You won't be disappointed.

To everyone crying about the salt content:

If you look at the nutrition facts and do the math you'll find the salt content of pappy's seasoning is only about 24% (290 mg of salt per 1.2 g serving size). one of the most common dry rub methods called the 8-3-1-1 formula uses 3 parts salt. that is equivalent to about 23% salt in the rub mix. Based on those numbers it is apparent that pappy's is right in line with traditional dry seasoning recipes.

This is one of my favorite seasonings for chicken and beef and I suggest that the lower scoring reviews be disregarded when considering purchasing this product.

Love the flavors! We use this on almost all our fish and meats before grilling, works on vegetables also. We are conscious of salt and find it takes very little Pappys to enhanced the flavor.

I purchased this mainly for the price and I've been experimenting with different rubs for my smoker. I haven't used this yet but when I received the seasoning I opened it up and tasted a little bit(very little) on my finger. The best description I can give it is Celery Salt on steroids. There is NO WAY I will even attempt to put this on any meat that I would eat or serve. Wish I would have read the reviews more carefully.

First of all, I love salt. I'm not an overly health conscious person, but I think salt gets a bad rap. If your blood pressure is in normal range, eat as much salt as you want, because I know I do.

"That steak was salted before it was grilled"
"Yes I know, now that it's cooked, I would like some more salt, thank you for your concern."

I've had that exchange of words before. I think the only meat I've never added salt to was ham, because even I have my salt limits. The Pappy's mix I received was so salty, I threw away two racks of St. Louis cut ribs yesterday, after smoking them for 4.5 hours. When I was a kid, I once tried eating a bouillon cube because I liked salt so much, and they tasted so good to lick, I decided to munch on a whole cube. It was disgusting and I almost got sick. That's how salty my ribs turned out. I promise you that I'm not exaggerating.

So I ask myself, how can so many people love Pappy's that it's the #1 bestseller on Amazon? After looking at the 1 and 2 star ratings, I think Pappy has a quality control problem. Two 1 star reviews last August complaining about extreme salt content. Mine is the second 1 star review from this month complaining about extreme salt content. Another 2 star review from this month claims they will make a homemade rub and use Pappy's in lieu of salt.

There is simply no way that all of these positive reviews (61 five star reviews!) used the same product that I did. My sample is not available for inspection, since I threw it away in disgust (both literal and figurative), along with $25 worth of ribs, but there is simply no way. I'll never buy it again to find out if my theory is correct.

My wife bought a small container of Pappy;s and I used most of it and it was pretty good so I purchased this. I like salt for the most part but this was soooo salty that it was inedible. Had to throw the ribs away. Had considered getting the salt free based on reviews but decided against it for some reason or another. Wish I had but there are other spices in the rub I did not really like. It also didn't integrate into the pork so some ribs shed the salty bark as they were cut. Overall it was a very bad experience on my Rec Tec. Recommend you do not buy this rub for anything regardless of price.

Hard to find in local stores. This larger size is what makes this one standout. Smaller size is readily available locally to try out.
