Modern jazz guitar with a blues soul,
By
This review is from: Parade (Audio CD)
Bruce MacLeod belongs to a generation of contemporary jazz artists who believe that modern jazz can embrace the innovations of rock while keeping true to its roots.
On Parade, MacLeod delivers an album that bristles with energy. Exemplary musicianship abounds, juxtaposing MacLeod's sophisticated guitar styling against longtime studio drummer Jimmy Hobson and virtuoso keyboardist Joe Heinemann. Parade reflects not only some fine improvisations, but a strong sense of composition: imagine the rollicking, groove-oriented spirit of Medeski Martin and Wood coupled with the compositional sophistication of Wayne Shorter. In short, Parade is an album that even those who claim they don't like jazz can get into. Highly recommended.
