4.0 out of 5 stars Slick, fast-paced, and immensely engaging., March 16, 2006
This review is from: Paradigm Shift: Equilibrium (Paperback)
Writer/artist Dirk Tiede unveils the beginning of a creepy, kinetic mystery in this first volume of Paradigm Shift. Detectives Kate and Mike tangle with the mob and their fellow cops while investigating a savage series of deadly attacks that seem to be the work of some strange animal -- a very large, very hungry animal. Tiede draws terrific action scenes, wonderfuly detailed environments, and appealingly manga-flavored characters. His story's a wonderful tease, too, cleverly layering hints of the supernatural into the cops-and-robbers goings-on. Tiede's one of the Web's most underrated comics talents, and his work deserves wider attention.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Story, Great Art, November 24, 2010
This review is from: Paradigm Shift: Equilibrium (Paperback)
This is an excellent book with excellent art, and a super story, like a CSI episode and X-files but better `cause of the werewolves (taekwondo, lots of mauled corpses, forensics and 44. magnums make this feel like Scully and Mulder find Grissom and kick it with a Dirty harry on zen). The research the author does for this is also pretty spectacular with the laws and monuments and construction materials for elements in the comic. This is definitely worth a read(or six).

5.0 out of 5 stars Carl Kolchak would love this book..., November 24, 2009
This review is from: Paradigm Shift: Equilibrium (Paperback)
The windy city, full of crime, dirty streets and strange events. Yes, I use to live near Chicago and think it isn't used enough in movies, books or anime. To find a comic which makes the city the focus warms my heart. Of course, I am a fan of the Gun Smith Cats and the Night Stalker, go figure.

Detectives Kate McAllister and Mike Stuart are a great pair of characters - realistic, flawed and down-to-Earth. So what happens when you step off the edge of the Earth and find that the world may be round but that the Earth is flat? That things DO go bump in the night and they are not your next door neighbor's cat?

Crime, drama, humor, and tons of extra make this a must for anybody who prefers paper pages to web pages. Get it.
