This used book and lacked the graphics and illustrations I expected. It would be worth about an eighth of what I paid for it. It was not value for money. We should all take care before spending such a large amount of money on a title and description that promises so much, but delivers so little. There are much better books on this subject available.

This book was recommended by Emma Clark in her book The Art of the Islamic Garden. This book sets out to give the reader a brief walk through Persian / Mughal history; with a focus on their gardens. The details on the gardens, from a historical perspective, are light...but that worked in favor of the book as a high level historical review of the gardens. The layout was excellent, as the author moves across Asia, 1 generation at a time. So in all, the reader is left with a deep impression of the cultural changes in gardening, and garden design over the past 100 years, in South Asia. It's a fantastic walk through history. It was refreshing ,and the 70's writing style made it an easy read. I enjoyed this book immensely.

Negative: I found the black and white gardening photos particularly bad. A reprint with color photo's would help.
