Nice, but..., March 13, 2005
This review is from: Paradise Citizen (Audio CD)
I miss the devious sense of humor that was present on People, Planets and Washing Machines or Mo' Wasabi. There are many great guitar players around. There are probably even a few who can craft clever big band or electric jazz band arrangements. The thing that makes Randy special is the blend of instrumental virtuosity and humor. It's a small category which includes people like the legendary Frank Zappa. I just found Paradise Citizens used and I'm hearing it for the first time. The music has the quality I've come to expect from Randy. Unfortunately, I'm half-way through and there are no comic relief tracks like "Mo'Wasabi" or "My Funny Valentine Shot the Sheriff" here. If I got a few laughs in addition to the fine musicianship, I would bump it up to five stars. I also wish there was a seller out there offering "People, Planets, and Washing Machines" on CD for less than $25!
