I'm a junior high language arts teacher. I teach a science fiction/fantasy unit, and this book, as well as the other 3 in the series, is great for students who don't think they like this genre. It is science fiction, but not too "far out" for those students who prefer realistic fiction. If I can talk a student into reading the first book, he/she will almost definitely read all four.
