Just a note of caution . .this transformer does NOT have an on/off timer. I didn't read the description carefully enough, so when I installed it, it was apparent there was NO on/off timer. Had to use an external timer that I plugged the device into. Seems to work ok, but a bit kluge . . .overall cost still better than some of the other devices.

So just so you're not confused by my review . . . the only way to turn ON the lights is to use CONSTANT POWER ON or with the PHOTO CELL. You can't set a specific time to turn on the lights . . . hope this is clear enough. The description is wrong, it states as of 1/13/2013, that the ON TIMER can be set from 1 to 9 hours AFTER dusk. That is incorrect. It should read the OFF command can be set from 1 to 9 hours AFTER dusk.

I have used the common Malibu/Intermatic landscape lighting for years. I wanted something different this time, that looked more professional. The Paradise transformer did the trick. I was able to connect two(yes, two) separate cables so power would be distributed more evenly to the lights. The light sensor works great. I also purchased 4 of the BestPro Lighting bronze flood lights at Amazon as well. My landscape lighting looks so professional this time.

Purchased two months ago as a replacement for a Malibu 300-watt transformer of similar design with a light sensing switch. Not only did this Paradise transformer fail in 2 months, but did so burning through the wire insulation and severing the primary connecting wire (please see picture I added). I have 5, 50-watt lights connected to the transformer with proper spacing. Although the Malibu I replaced only lasted 2 years (also a piece of garbage), at least it didn't nearly burn my house down. Actually, the only reason it didn't burn my house down is because I had the transformer hung on a brick wall on the exterior of my home under a patio (no direct contact with rain or water). Since it is past 30 days, Amazon will not refund/replace and now I get the pleasure of hassling with the manufacture of this crap transformer that nearly burned my house down for a refund or at least a replacement.

Great product. No nonsense setting, works like a charm. Has a big bright LED display that shows your setting without having to open the cover to see the dial (my previous one had a complex dial with numbers and always very confusing to adjust it). The light sensor works perfectly fine (it has to really get dark for it to start, so be patient while testing it!!). I am giving it 4 stars, would have given 5 stars, but for one issue:

The power cable is too short and the connection is concealed - it would help if we could replace the existing power cable (without opening the box etc.) with a longer one the connect wherever the outlet is located. I hope someone from Paradise looks at this review and provide that flexibility.

Far superior to most units I've used in the past. Easy to set up, easy to program and great transformer. Was far superior to the one it replaced of the same wattage. I intend to purchase more in near future.

300W unit was used to power 20 10-watt bulbs in a 'star' wiring pattern with 12AWG wiring. I've had it in service for approx 3 months -- and last night the lights on my deck flickered and then went out. Uh-oh.

My first reaction was to think the unit was fried - it even smelled like it was fried -- but I called the company's service number today and actually spoke with a person in the USA (!) He was very helpful and told me that sometimes the output wires from the transformer might be loose, going into the small wiring block under the front cover. Sure enough I went out to look at it and one wire was completely loose, just barely touching the wiring block. My wires coming out of the block were solid -- it was the transformer wiring going *into* the block that was loose. The smell was most likely from some arcing due to the poor connection.

Anyway, I tightened up the connection and presto - works fine again! Very impressed with their customer service especially being able to speak to an actual technician in the USA and not some script-reader in another country.

This item exceeded my expectations. Very solid, very well made. I also like the fact that after a power loss it restores the time setting.
