Moving forward...,
By
This review is from: Paradise Kiss, Book 3 (Paperback)
In this installment to Paradise Kiss the character of Yukari continues to grow and become her own person(YAY!). For the first time I've found myself disliking George. All the characters seem to be growing(except maybe Isabella, but even she(he) had some development in the second Volume). In this volume Yukari has decided to become a professional model and has goes all the way with George which leads to her moving in with him. Yukari must have her mother sign some papers in order for her to join the modeling agency however, so this leads to a dilema... Can she go home and will her mother accept her? I believe that though the fashion is still very prominent, that the story and characters are taking the forefront more now. Which is a good thing, because the characters are so good the story seems new and fresh, they seem real and not like just some cliche or something like that. Another great thing about that series is how it mocks traditional shoujo manga plots and characters, the characters are aware that their in a comic, and its funny. Yazawa somehow makes this work extremely well, it makes it more funny. :D Also, be awar there is a lot of sexual content in it. For conservatives like myself, be aware of that. But it is done tastefully, and hey you can always cover it if you don't like it. ;P So I suggest not giving this to those under 16yrs of age. God Bless & *enjoy* ~Amy

Love the storyline and the clothes,

I first read Paradise Kiss in the Japanese mag, Zipper. Since I don't know Japanese, I don't know what the story is all about but just admire the drawings( the clothes are just so awesome!). Now I have read the manga (finally!) and I think Ai Yazawa is quite stick to the reality that we need to face every day. Of course, she has magnified the small parts which makes the manga a lot funnier than we are in real life. But this does not make her manga plain. The clothes are so glamorous (u will wish to wear those out!) and detailed; and the characters are very different from one another. Trust me, you will like it! ( I bought some of her other mangas too!)

I'm soo happy that Miwako's on the front cover! ^_^ She's one of my favourite characters in Paradise Kiss besides Isabella (hoping he'll be on the front of v.5 *v*). Anyways, in this volume lots of stuff happen. Yukari's relationship with George becomes more than kisses on the lips... it's more of all over her body. ^^; *SPOILER BEGINS* Yukari loses her virginity to George in Arashi's bed... hahaha Plus Yukari starts to become a professional model because she's got the whole 'package'! *SPOILER ENDS*

We learn more about the wonderful universe that was established in Paradise Kiss. The costume designs in here are really cool and some very eclectic, and that only adds to the charm. We learn more about Yukari (Caroline) and her family issues.

The story of Paradise Kiss is very interesting. Its a great love story. It will appeal to an age group starting at around age 15+. This is the story of a young girl torn between two paths in life. The life she wants and the life she is made to feel she should live. Very enjoyable.

My friend introduced me to this story. It is awesome to read, it has the right mix of comedy, serious, funky and fresh. I would recomend this to anyone who likes to read Shojo manga, and for some trying to branch out into more things. A great story line with relatable characters.

Gorgeous!,

This series is absolutely wonderful! Yes, the ratings were a bit off rating it as teen but that was probably based on the first two volumes. The style is unique and the if you don't like the storyline, the art is worth it on its own. Yes, there is sex in this story but it's kind of important to the plotline. It helps develop the personalities that the characters have. This series has definitely been my favorite out of all others. I also recommend Kodocha and Chobits for anyone else who enjoys shoujo titles.

Best Art In Manga You Can Get!,

This review is from: Paradise Kiss, Book 3 (Paperback)
"Paridise Kiss" is deffinatly one of the best comic books I have so far picked up, plus it's as good as the first one. It's loaded full of the very famous Japanese fashion. (Lolita Fashion, Japanese Street Fashion, etc.) It is so different from the usual comic books..(Notice that the eyes of Ai Yazawa's comics are diffrent and more wide than normal comic book charecter's eyes. For example, Sailor Moon, and Marmalade Boy.) Still, comic book strives to be diffrent, resulting in how now, there is a whole new style called "Para-kiss." You must check this book out, and if you might want to find out what Lolita Fashion is, you should check out the pure Japanese, infamous books... Gothic & Lolita Bibles, 1 through 4. (I believe that's as far as it goes.) Also, Alice Doll comic have Lolita fashion in them, and so does the comic book "Cinderella" (no, not the classic!) and Cardcapture Sakura. You can also find out more about Lolita Fashion and Gothic Lolita fashion on my website [website]-Enjoy!

Definately the wrong rating.....,
By Sailor Anime/manga Luver007 (USA (Hi Sparky!)) - See all my reviews

First of all let me clear this up with you,THEY'VE GOT THE RATINGS ALL WRONG! They rate it T (ages 13+) I say they should have rated it OT( older teen ages 16+) insted of #4 being rated like that. They need to switch the ratings. Another thing is that this book is pretty good. ( I mean, check out all of the great Japanese fashion stuff going on) But it would have been better if the illustrator didn't turn it into some porno manga. I picked up this book thinking it would be great. No porn no hentai none of the [stuff].Then it started to go down hill. Sure we all love romance as much as the next person does but I DON'T WANT MANGA WITH PEOPLE DOING "IT"! It's gross when you see Yukari & George doing it. It's even worse with Arashi & Miwako! And we don't need to hear what they're saying duriong that! All in all, I say this is a pretty good manga but if you read be WARNED! This isn't for the young reader. And this is manga is GOOD just skip over those pages. There's nothing important to look at. |
