5.0 out of 5 stars An Exotic, Sexy, Fantastic Read, April 28, 2011
I read somewhere some years ago that Shirl Henke was considered to be one of the top ten historical romance writers around. Well, this book certainly bears that out. It features scrappy, unusual, and attractive lovers, a host of truly despicable villains (of which the heroine's father is one), and a culture (Taino Indians) so alien that it could take place on another planet rather than the Indies. It is one of the most exotic stories I have ever read.
Take a look at Beatrice Small's praise on the cover of Paradise & More. That says it all. One consummate pro recognizing another. This is a 5 star read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steamy romance set in a beautifully painted culture, April 30, 2011
This novel is a tour-de-force. The author sets her tale in one of the darkest periods of history (a truck-load of super slimy villains that you'll love to hate) and yet is able to construct a rousing, life-affirming battle between two very attractive people -- both physically and spiritually.

Aaron Torres has befriended the Tainos Indian of Espanola. Because of his blond hair and fair skin, they call him the "golden man." Magdalena Valdez who has followed him from Spain agrees with that assessment. Moreover, the young girl believes that they were meant to be together, an opinion not shared by Aaron. However, between carnage and betrayal their story love story illuminates what could be a dark tale, if weren't for that and the fact that the author weaves in fascinating local color, events and scenes, which I was totally ignorant of. I love how Shirl immerses the reader in these exotic cultures. I recommend this book highly, especially if you liked Return to Paradise (Torres Family Saga).
