First of two novels (the other is "The Suicide Plague") featuring Harry Porter, the likably cynical journalist. Excellent hardboiled-mystery meets science fiction. This one features Harry investigating murderous goings-on at Earth's first orbital colony. Entertaining reading!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sci fi noir with a humorous bent, January 20, 2006
By
Harry Porter, the likably cynical journalist, boozer and skirt chaser is back in action in this enjoyable follow up to The Suicide Plague. This one sends Harry into space to investigate the mysterious goings on at a new high tech space station. The plot is similar to WHEN TROUBLE BECKONS, the 2nd in the Mathew Swain series by Mike McQuay; both feature lone anti-heroes leaving their usual earthly habitats to solve mysteries in outer space. This is an enjoyable sci fi mystery and its a shame that Ed Naha never wrote any further Harry Porter books. The character is immensely likable and the science fiction details convincing and amusing in their extrapolations of current trends in society.

4.0 out of 5 stars Harry Potter, newspaper man, investigates on a space colony., November 3, 1999
By A Customer
(Cover Blurb) Paradise in the year 2000... Or an eternity of Hell? Welcome to Island One, the first Human colony in space, man's boldest thrust into the heavens, the last hope of an overburdened Earth.

Meet Harry Potter, ace newsman, as he uncovers the lurid truth behind Island One the black secrets of it's past, mounting hysteria in the face of ritualistic murder, a desperate power game for survival- and the Children of Light, deadly mutants with telepathic tentacles thant probe human minds and turn the hope of the future into an orgy of terror.

This was the first of two books about Harry Potter, by Ed Naha. The second, The Suicide Plague, was perhaps the better of the two. For years I have combed the Science fiction section waiting for the third book without success. Recommended.
