Past and future,
This review is from: Paradise Sucks (Paperback)
"Paradise Sucks" retells the creation myth interspersed with a futuristic tale of a world where everyone is the same except for one person who looks a lot like Magic Boy - the only artist left in the world.
The creation myth part of the story is a cutesy retelling with Adam encountering cheeky monkeys and the Devil represented as a bug who fell off a cloud when he tried to help someone. The Magic Boy part of it tells the reader about Kochalka's artistic philosophy, that life and art are vibrant and exciting and it doesn't matter if the pictures aren't perfect, just that they contain and project energy. It's not a bad comic book but if you're a James Kochalka fan, chances are you've read some of his better works - American Elf, Monkey Vs Robot, Fantastic Butterflys - so "Paradise Sucks", while familiar, will look a bit weak in comparison.

typically written in his philosophical, yet easy going style which will make you laugh, yet think about adam and eve, and lifes events. what is important to some, and taken for granted by others. if you have read any of his other comics, you'll like this one too
