My African Grey loves this toy! It's destroyed happily quite quickly. The only problem is that the chain/hook contains zinc! I simply replace the chain and manually re-rope the thimbles. The rope and thimbles are perfectly safe though.

Always test anything metal with a magnet. If the magnet connects, then the item is deadly to your parrot and needs to be replaced with a stainless steel version of the metal part!!!! Many parrots die from lead and zinc!!!

It is true that a magnet will connect to stainless steel. However, with lead and zinc based metals, the magnet connection will be much stronger than with a stainless steel material. Iron is also magnetic but covered with non-toxic paint makes it safe for birds. It is better to be safe than sorry since the zinc/lead issue is a huge silent killer with pet birds that many people are unaware of.

It appears all items such as this from this company, are made in China. With the long history of China's toxic issues with pet food and children's toys, do we really want to give our adored pets something to chew on for days, that is poisonous? Do we want to take that chance with our littlest, most susceptible family members?

My issue is that it was not disclosed in the ad. These things are expensive and to pay for something that has such potential for harm is wrong. What guarantees we have?

My CAG usually takes at least two weeks to "warm up" to a toy, but this took only two days and she was happily chomping on it. She had thoroughly destroyed it in about 48 hours but that's a good thing. Parrot toys aren't supposed to last long - it means that the parrot isn't playing with it.

i have several birds (love bird, cockatiel, sun conure) and i buy LOTS of wood and rope toys including many from this particular manufacturer. this one was definitely a cut below in terms of durability compared to others. perhaps best for very small birds, parakeet size or smaller.

PROS:
* nice metal chain / hardware (totally re-useable if i put my own wood blocks)
* brightly colored
* ropes / knots are still there, seem durable

CONS:
* flimsy discs and spacers, like made out of balsa or even dense foam. didn't last 48h for an energetic cockatiel.
* turned into a pile of rubbish on the floor of my bird's house.

The round wood chips are so fragile that many of them were broken/removed fro the toy during shipment. The rings should be a little thicker to prevent breakage and for increased durability.

I have an "inquisitive" african grey.
He totally trashed it in 4 hours.
Gave it a 2 for him, might be a 4 or 5 for a bird not so "driven".
