I'm a huge Coldplay fan, and love this song. I know there are many complaining that they don't like it, some of the long-time fans say Coldplay has gone too far from their "Classic" sounds. But I love that the band has taken new directions. I think this song is a fresh step, great strings, great piano, great vocals, bass and guitar. It brings together everything that Coldplay is.
At the same time, the song isn't all that new, or at least, portions of it aren't. Some instrumentation comes from a song Coldplay wrote in 2008. The song is called "Fun" and was one of a few given to Natalie Imbruglia for her album. In 2009, Chris Martin said he regretted giving her the song, and Natalie said he couldn't have it back (Much like Coldplay giving Embrace "Gravity" then later taking it back and releasing it as a B-side). It seems Coldplay have instead taken some parts of "Fun" and incorporated them into Paradise. It worked out beautifully, hopefully Natalie won't notice!

The song definitely caught me by surprise but I feel like its a move to a new direction with Coldplay.
The instruments in this song is massive, sounds epic.. plus Chris' voice adds the last remaining piece to this amazing song.
