Book Description

About the Author

Born in Cuba in 1910, Lezama Lima was appointed director of the Department of Literature and Publications of the National Cultural Council and vice-president of the Cuban Artists and Writers Union after the Castro revolution. However, because of the books frank discussion of homosexuality (a taboo topic in Cuba), he was out-of-favor with the Castro regime after Paradiso's publication. He died in 1976.

This review is from: Paradiso (Letras Hispánicas) (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
Paradiso by Jósé lezama Lima is undoubtedly the most important literary work produced in Cuba in the 20th century.A poem.A tropical Remembrances of Things Past of Marcel Proust.Difficult to believe that such a work of art was produced in Havana in the 1960`s.
Superb reading.
