I tried the trial version of this game and really enjoyed it. I purchased the game and have been trying to play it. The graphics are great, the program is very realistic in its response to commands. I am a retired U.S. Coast Guard Chief Bosn's Mate so I have experience in what to expect from throttle, rudder and bow thruster commands.

My issue with this game is technical. I am operating a brand new Dell with a Intel I7 chip, 6GB of Ram, and a 1TB HD. I have a new video card on order to see if that will make the situation better. The installation was a problem, it finnally installed on the 4th attempt.

This game loves to crash! I have to constantly save the game I am playing to make sure I don't lose any data. (What is funny is that the trial version did not crash at all! Go Figure?)

The tech support forum is of very little help.

I Love and Hate this game all at the same time!

SCP

Hello all
After playing ship simulator extremes for 2 weeks now
Its time too review

For a 3rd Ship Sim game from VSTEP i can say this is pretty good
Posetive Points
My game has steam, it was no problem activating it.

Posotive Points:
1. From Calm Seas too The great catagory 5 hurricane
2. From Very Cold Antartice too the Beautiful warm bora bora
3. A nice selection of ship "Container,Tanker,Ferry,Cruiser,Coast Guard ships ETC "
4. New dynamics and very realistic
5. Dover And Calias are in the same map :)
6. The w greenpeace ships have been added and those are the "Esperanza and RWIII"
7. Deployeble life boats and RIB's
8. New tourist, greenpeace missions and Core Level

Negative points:
1. It appears there are some static instruments of the bridges
ANd i want vstep too make them too work. Other wise its useles on the bridge
2. It also noticed the sound of the ships could use some enhancements like the "Vermaas,Latitude,Orient Star,Ocean Prince, RWIII"
A ship that big does not sound a like a 50 year old truk :S.
3. I also miss the big mega yacht from ship simulator 2006
A ship like that deserves too be in a extreme game for core and tourist missions

If Vstep could fix the negative points i posted, i would rate this game 5 stars instead of 4
I hope this review was helpfull too you
Regards Ocean Dream from the Shipsim forum

The graphics are pretty good. Not too bad with sim loading time. Pain to configure joy stick and missions are painfully long and boring.25% fun - 75% omg am i ever going to get there! I will say i own many sim games from Micro X gold to train and fighter jet sims and this game does run pretty smooth. Worth owning, but don't make plans for 2 days if you desire to make any progress in the game.

There's something very cool about sailing ships in heavy seas, that man against the elements theme, but Ship Simulator Extremes falls apart a little in this arena because it's not particularly extreme.

What's done well is the modeling of the vessels and their basic handling characteristics. It's quite a challenge manuevering a huge ocean going vessel through a narrow port. There are plenty of missions like this to challenge your ability to dock a ship without making a hash of it.

That element is fun, but it's also rather time consuming and while some missions have been truncated, you don't really sail across the Atlantic in a cargo vessel, you'll still need plenty of hours to get through the missions.

What's really missing is the graphical element that makes the simulator feel authentic. Compare it to say some of the more recent flight simulators, like the DCS franchise, or Rise of Flight and you begin to feel like you've gone back ten years in graphics design. Cranking up all the specs doesn't really deliver and while things are sharp enough on board, there's that real world environment that's lacking.

If you like this kind of sim' go for it, but if you're expecting extreme weather sailing a the taste of salt in your mouth, and the sound of waves slamming the ship...well, you'll be disappointed.

I downloaded this from Amazon. The price was cheap, I can't complain about that.

The simulator is fun. Lot's of options regarding weather, time of day and such. The clouds look a little fake. The missions are enjoyable, most are easy, some are pretty hard, especially when you have to tug a huge ship into a harbor. I wish there were more view options. Also, I wish you could control the ship when using the "3" view as I like to put myself on the side where I am docking so I can see what I am doing. I know you can do it with the "1" view, but it's not as realistic if you watch from above, a captain doesn't have that luxury. The biggest issue in my opinion is the limited world you can discover. Rather than just giving you a very simplified rest of the world, you can only sail in the select few harbors and no further. The program just tells you that you have left the area and sends you back to the main menu. Some years ago I had a different ship simulator, and it had all of the world at least in a rudimentary style. The general physics seem pretty good, although sometimes when I reverse a regular ship with a normal rudder, it doesn't seem to react to the rudder in a manner I think it should. I'm just used to small boats, so it may be accurate that a super tanker does odd stuff when reversing, I wouldn't know, if there are any super tanker captains here, please let me know.

I run it on an older PC with Win 7 64 bit, a Q9400 quad core 2.66 GHz processor, 8GB of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce GT230 graphics card. All settings are maxed out and I never see any video lag.

I do hope the company keeps at it and tweaks the game a little more and maybe add some more scenery, that would be nice.
