4.0 out of 5 stars Long setup, clipped ending
The setup story was pretty interesting and there was quite a bit of action here. I enjoyed the writing but found the ending to be somewhat unsatisfying -- after all of that work, what does Annja have to show for it? After what happened to the camera crew, will she ever work on CHM again?? This is the first time I think we've seen how people that Annja knows in her...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book but too much Christian bashing
I enjoyed this book, but there is too much bashing of Christians in the book. I know absolutely no Christian who would do what these "Christians" did at the end. It was a lot of good action but being a Christian myself I took offense at how common it is to present Christians in a bad light. It is an interesting read otherwise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Long setup, clipped ending, September 23, 2010

The setup story was pretty interesting and there was quite a bit of action here. I enjoyed the writing but found the ending to be somewhat unsatisfying -- after all of that work, what does Annja have to show for it? After what happened to the camera crew, will she ever work on CHM again?? This is the first time I think we've seen how people that Annja knows in her 'real' life back in New York react to her behavior in 'stressful' situations. That conflict within Annja was something different to explore.

Overall, another solid effort that I did enjoy reading.

Note to the writers: it has been awhile since we've seen Garin and I've missed development of that storyline and background of the sword and its mythology.

1.0 out of 5 stars Author has an agenda which diminishes the story, March 18, 2010
This review is from: Paradox (Rogue Angel #21) (Mass Market Paperback)
I've loved this series from the beginning. Who wouldn't? A kick-a heroine, action, adventure, history, archaeology...It's all here! However, the ghost author of this story, Victor Milan, has an agenda of his own. Usually he is a brilliant writer having contributed to the "Deathlands" and "Outlanders" series but he is worse than a fanatical preacher spouting his own personal doctrine and POV in this book.
A Noah's ark type structure on Mt. Ararat provides the setting of this book. The characters are the bad guys: fanatical, hypocritical Christians who drink and fornicate and the good guys: the extreme leftest, radical liberals who belittle Christianity and bible-believing Christians. The "Christian" characters erroneously believe the Flood happened in c. 1450 BC which is ludicrous since that was the approximate date of the Exodus. Biblical chronology places the Flood at c. 2350 BC.
What ticks me off to no end are individuals such as Victor Milan who have no clue about true Christianity and regurgitate their assumptions about a Christian's belief system and resort to mud slinging and name calling all the while making ridiculous assumptions which have no basis in fact. This author in professing himself to be wise has become a fool in my eye.
The belief in the theory of evolutionism takes far more faith to believe than that God created the world and all that is within it. Evolutionists takes legitimate science like adaptation which is a horizontal change within a species, redefines it as microevolution and cries, "See! Here's proof for macroevolution!" Evolutionism states that natural selection and mutations are the mechanism for vertical, macroevolution. True observational science punches holes in this logic. Natural Selection is a legitimate science that actually discredits evolutionism. This is because there is actually a loss of genetic information from the gene pool, not a net gain. Once this genetic information is lost through the weeding out process of natural selection, it is lost forever unless it is reintroduced through the parent species that have not lost whatever genetic code that was lost whether it be the beak size of finches or the color of Peppered Moths. There is no net gain of information as evolutionism supposes. Mutations are usually always harmful and will usually benefit only the first generation with the mutation while passing harmful genetics to their offspring such as Sickle Cell Anemia. Plus there comes the question of which came first: DNA or RNA? RNA makes DNA but you need DNA to make RNA. The idea of evolutionism as a legitimate science is further shown for its absurdity by the laws of probability not to mention the first two laws of thermodynamics. There are 20 different amino acids that can be strung together like boxcars in a train, some hundreds long to make proteins for the body. Although some amino acids can be interchanged, they must be in an exact order to perform their function. It is the misplacement of these amino acids that can cause serious diseases in the human body. So, imagine time and chance making a protein choosing among the 20 different amino acids. It is like flipping a coin with 20 sides. To get the first two amino acid sequences correct will be 20 X 20 or 400:1. Three in a row will be 20 X 20 X 20 which is 8000:1. Extrapolate the math out to a hundred or more place and you'll see how ridiculous the idea actually is that evolution could even remotely be true. Insulin had a one in ten to the one hundred and fifty sixth power of happening by chance. And the mathematical definition for absurdity is anything over ten to the fiftieth power. This is barely the tip of the iceberg of evidence against the theory.
Furthermore, Victor Milan continuously disses the authenticity of the biblical account and makes it sound like anyone who has confidence in its integrity is a flake, a nut and a fool. When in actuality, over 25,000 archaeological sites confirms the historicity of the bible. The bible speaks of the currents in the ocean, fresh water springs w/i, the earth being a sphere as well as the constellations Orion and Pleiades being gravitationally linked among many more profound scientific facts that have only recently been rediscovered.
He also mocks the account of a worldwide flood when the whole world screams its evidence of such an historical event. Ken Ham states we would expect to find evidence of billions of dead things, buried in rock layers, laid down by water all over the earth. That is exactly what we find.
Anyway, enough said! True, there are plenty of fanatical, religious nuts in the world of all religions but don't friggin' stereotype me as an ignorant buffoon, Mr. Milan! I could care less if you believe in the biblical account but don't preach at me when your job is to entertain!
