5.0 out of 5 stars Les paradoxes de Thierry sont beaux
I like a few of the other reviewers found my way to Thierry by way of "A la recherche de la nouvelle star." It may seem trying to most that real talent can come out of commercially produceds shows like that, but it's true. 3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment...
Really great vocal POTENTIAL came through on most of the songs for Thierry Amiel, but the choice in songs was not very good. They all sounded pretty much the same (unlike Gregory Lemarchal whose albums are fantastic and quite of a varied sort). Too bad.

I like a few of the other reviewers found my way to Thierry by way of "A la recherche de la nouvelle star." It may seem trying to most that real talent can come out of commercially produceds shows like that, but it's true. Thierry is really talented vocally and he is to me, wiser and more mature beyond his actual years. All of the songs on the album both old and new are sung with such a great depth of emotion. I do speak french myself and i can vouch for the beauty and complexity of the songs. There is a great commentary on social issues, such as in "Entends -tu les hommes" and "2,000 ans sur la terre" , "On s'envole" ,and one cannot ignore the fragility of the classic "Avec le temps." Thierry is very different from the actual winner of "Nouvelle star" Jonatan. They both have a different style and i would say that Jonatan (and i do like Jonatan as well) is "younger" and given a decision between Thierry and Jonatan, I choose Thierry. This is an amazing album, many different ranges. It's a great value as well given the bonus tracks. It is a wonderful album and I really recommend it with high honors. Tres bien fait Thierry!

5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible voice, February 25, 2004

Thierry's first album is wonderful! I live in France now and Thierry is without a doubt one of the greatest new French voices. He was discovered on "A la Recherche de la Nouvelle Star" and was the runner up. In my eyes and the eyes of many others he still won. He has become just as successful, if not even more so, than the actual winner. The album has Thierry's version of some of the most popular French songs in history...like "Avec le Temps", "Je Suis Malade", "L'Aigle Noir" etc. It moves me every time I listen to these! His newest single from the album "Je Regarde La-Haut" is really good too as well as "Les Mots Bleus" ...actually, I like just about every song on the album to be perfectly honest. Even if you don't understand French, it's a great album to have. (You can always have someone translate the songs or research it alone if you want the direct meanings.) It really is worth it. He trasmits so much emotion through his voice, I'm sure you'll understand the main idea anyway! I highly recommend this album!

5.0 out of 5 stars He charmed us with classics, don't miss his début release !, November 19, 2003

Thierry was the revelation of yet another TV musical talent show. But don't be mistaken, we are talking about a real artist here : someone with a real personality and quite a sensibility. In a few years' time, no one will even remember that the show is how we got the chance to hear him singing. I do like his new songs but even if just to listen to him singing "Amsterdam" or "l'Aigle Noir", this CD is worth your money !
PS just in case you're wondering : I am 28 years' old, married and pregnant, and not a crazy adolescent fan in love with the guy :-))

5.0 out of 5 stars A Nouvelle Star Is Born, December 7, 2006

I was in the mood for some French music and happened upon Thierry Amiel on YouTube. In 2003, he was the runner-up on "A la Recherche de la Nouvelle Star" (the French version of American Idol). I bought his CD "Paradoxes" and was quite impressed with his voice and the emotion projected by someone so young. The songs on this CD are a mix of jumpy French pop and some old standards. All the songs are good - no "fillers" sometimes used to pump out an album while an artist is hot. Having some knowlege of French improves the listener's enjoyment, but if you're looking for good music give this a try. You can hear samples of the songs on Amazon's French site: http://www.amazon.fr

4.0 out of 5 stars Even though it's in French, it's worth your money, November 24, 2003
This review is from: Paradoxes (Audio CD)
I stumbled across Thierry Amiel due to some a website of foreign top 40 singles. I checked out the French charts and saw Thierry Amiel, Les Mots Bleus, and immediately wanted to hear it. It might sound crazy, but I know nothing about France, or the use of this name, but I immediately thought of Arsenal's Thierry Henry and became interested. I must admitted I found a copy of Les Mots Bleus as an mp3 and fell in love with it even though I had no idea what the song was about, that it was a cover, or that he's from one of the American Idol type shows, which I don't like. But point is, this boy can sing. I had to have this album. It is very pop and very non original, but it's got some catchy songs, and the point of it is that he can SING! I must say the money for this cd was worth it. And even though I am not big on anything French, his accent sounds very thick and romantic. I recommend to buy this cd. Now I just have to translate the songs, since the lyrics are thankfully included.
It's not the Pet Shop Boys, by far the best group around, but is is definately a must buy. Why not expose someone to some great foreign music for X-mas??
Thanks Thierry. You give me some faith in those idol shows.
Great stuff!
