The Paralegal's Desk Reference, July 7, 2000
This review is from: Paralegal Desk Reference 1E (Paralegal's Desk Reference) (Paperback)
This reference guide is very helpful to a new Paralegal. It outlines, how to gather information, interviewing techniques, working with other professionals, working a case, finding witnesses, defendants, and how the job will expand for today's work environment. At the end of this book, there is a guide to paralegal training courses put together by the American Bar Association. All in all, a great reference tool.

A Very Useful and Effective Guide, September 28, 2010
This review is from: Paralegal Desk Reference 1E (Paralegal's Desk Reference) (Paperback)
Review of "The Paralegal's Desk Reference: Up-To-The-Minute Information-Gathering Techniques For Today's Paralegal" by Steve Albrecht.
This is a great little book that very clearly details how to function as the consummate paralegal by advising on how to: Gather information; interview clients, witnesses, and case participants; how to read police reports; how to work with police, private investigators, adjusters, and other experts; how to conduct thorough research; how to locate witnesses, clients, and lost clients; and how to deal with an expanding role.
The beauty and power of the text lies in it's simplicity. There is no "hiding the ball" here in long winded legalese or other explanations. Author Albrecht outlines the procedure in an easy to read and understand explanation that resonates with pragmatism and a common sense approach. For example, Albrecht advises when having problems in working the assigned case the paralegal should: "Go back over the file for more help. Look at the statements and depositions made by all the parties. Spot the verbal clues, apparent misstatements, bald lies, and other issues that can give you a toehold into a new part of the case. Don't be afraid to start from the beginning. Make phone calls to your witnesses and re-interview them if you have questions after the first pass..."
This is a very effective way to guide the paralegal/legal assistant in ensuring that the facts of a case have been identified and clarified.
I recommend this text for every paralegal student and graduate. Five stars without hesitation.
