Editorial Reviews

Review

"Parallel Gospels is a superb achievement which, in a single stroke, addresses the numerous problems of translation, formatting, and arrangement that have plagued current English synopses. It is a tool that is optimally useful. I don't see any feature of either Aland or Throckmorton that should incline the instructor to keep using them once Crook is available (except, of course, inertia)."--John S. Kloppenborg, University of Toronto

I purchased this for a seminar to examine the Hebrew context of the synoptic Gospels. I actually ended up using my Logos software to set up the same thing as this book. What this book adds is the authors inputs and interpretations which are somewhat helpful.

Overall it is ok as a text.

This is a fine book for comparing each of the gospels with one another. The format is excellent with the gospels all parallel on the same page. That being said, the writer also included the Gospel of Q, "to give students access to the text" plus the author included the gospel of Thomas, Neither of these are included in most of our modern translations. Since I am not a Bible scholar as such I felt there was more material here than I really needed for my own personal study. For those who want who want to dig deeper into the study of the synoptic gospels....its a good read. Be prepared for intense study!
