Today's computers don't come with parallel ports. But they do have USB! With this adapter cable you can still use your older printers with your newer computer. Converts a printer's parallel port for use with a USB port. This cable adapter is only compatible with 36-pin parallel ports: be aware that there are multiple types of parallel ports, some with 25 pins, some with 36. Please check your documentation or count the pins before you order! Length is 3 ft.

Simply does not work in XP,

This product is not recognized in XP and the drivers (which are buried in a subdirectory on the mini CD) do not work even when manually added via add new hardware/ports/have disk -> mini CD drivers. XP sees there's a new USB device but is unable to locate any driver, nor asks where one is (as the documentation claims should happen). There is no company or support information, and the seller cable4less / cable4pc only has email. don't buy it

I am so happy to have found this cable set, made my connection to new computer USB a simple task for my old HP4 laser printer with really old style printer connections....I'd hate to part with a great old printer because of a connection problem...SAVED!

When you buy a new computer you'll have lots of USB ports and nothing else, which makes connecting an existing non-USB printer or scanner pretty difficult. Well, not difficult, all you need to do is connect them with a parallel-to-usb adapter cable. You can get one at Best Buy or Staples for $40-$60, or you can buy this one that does the same thing for about $5.
