This cable was perfect...I had an old printer and wanted to hook it up to my new laptop. The cable worked fine. However, the trouble is that my laptop did not support the old printer. So, if you are trying to do what I was trying to do, save yourself some time and money and make sure your laptop supports the printer first. I gave the cable away with the old printer.

For the past few years, I searched "high and low" for a USB-parallel printer cable that would work with my old HP Laserjet 2100. The printer was connected to Asus and Lenova computers. This device "fits the bill." That does not mean that it is perfect. Here are the "good" and "bad" on this product.
.
.
ADVANTAGES
.
1. It is the cheapest USB-parallel printer cable adapter on the Amazon website that works. There is a competing model that is 40% less, but it is useless. The drivers on the CD do not install. More important, the manufacturer's website does not list the cable as a company product.
.
2. The six feet length is adequate.
.
.
DISADVANTAGES
.
1. The cable is thinner than competing products. Also, it is constructed of aluminum woven wiring instead of copper. As the result, electrical conductivity is minimal.
.
2. The plastic covering looks cheap.
.
3. Contrary to the advertisement, it is not a "plug and play" device. In fact, there are no instructions on the packaging to make the device work. I had to experiment. . . . Please follow these instructions. Any deviation will not work.
.
. . a. Connect the printer end of the cable to the printer port.
.
. . b. Turn the printer and computer "on."
.
. . c. Connect the USB end of the cable to one of the computer's USB 2.0 ports. This action automatically causes the computer's AUTO PLAY to active. It loads two software drivers: USB cable and printer. . . . Please be advise that the activation of these two software drivers will only occur AFTER the printer and computer are turned "on" and not before.
.
. . d. Click the START BUTTON - CONTROL PANEL - VIEW DEVICES AND PRINTERS.

I had an HP 2100 laser printer to connect to a laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 with no parallel port. I only had a momentary glitch; I had to turn on the printer before I plugged in the USB cable. The other way keeps it from automatically recognizing the printer. The system auto configured and I was printing in right away.

If you have a older parallel printer and a newer computer this little adapter is just what you need.
Just plug it into the printer parallel port and plug the other end into your computer and you are
G to G "Good to Go" !
These have let me put new life into older laser printers.
