Have Any of You Been To Space?, December 27, 2003

I'm sure the answer to that question is no. Not many people have had to pleasure of travelling in to space. I, however, am one of the view who has journeyed in to the unknown. It's true. No, I'm not an astronaut, and no I've never been in a space flight simulator. I simply listened to "Paralyzed Mind of the Archangel Void" on headphones. I felt as if I was on a spaceship going through a black hole going through a time travel machine. I was disappointed for the first 20 minutes, because it seemed as if the album was going to go on droning the same beat over and over again, but I was wrong. It built up to the most amazing climax and what is simply the greatest musical moment I have heard in history. If you get this album, don't give up towards the end of the extended track because it is mind-blowing!
I wanted to send myself to the insane asylum because I could not take this album's intenseness. If you can get your hands on it (which is difficult), do it and travel through space and go to an asylum in one 42 minute sitting.

A truly beautiful thing to own and my favorite album to paint to - dense, brassy, exciting and transfixing - it makes my heart pound. Its always a bummer when it winds slowly to a close - I wish it was twice as long. A must for any Mercury Rev fan, especially those who've wished songs like "Chasing A Bee" and "Everlasting Arm" could go in indefinitely.
