Truth is Stranger than Fiction,

This review is from: Paramedic Buff to Burnt (Paperback)
When a book makes you change the way you think on a day-to-day basis, its author deserves enormous credit. Kudos to George Steffensen, who describes the life of a medic in an all-out, stream-of-consciousness, hit-you-over-the-head reality-based approach. His stories are so real and honest, so memorable and colorful, that now whenever I hear a siren or see an ambulance, I think of what those everyday heroes are doing inside. This is a must-read for anyone interested in the field. Thank you for an intense and funny read, and thank you for the work that you and your colleagues do every day.

I am not exactly sure how I ended up getting the unedited version of your book which was a bit difficult to read, but it was an interesting autobiography just the same. I laughed at a few of the analogies that were definate truisms that define the differences between the new buff and the older experienced medics. Also interesting is how New York presents experiences that are unique to many other services, cities and working environments.
Mr. Steffensen my suggestion to you is to continue to write your view of the EMS world according to George with future editions, assure that all your work is properly edited to make you shine in the academic light that becomes you, and expound upon your thoughts, feelings, and concerns about how society has created each situation that you become involved with. Thank you for doing the work that you do and for sharing your experiences in our book.

As both a physician and paramedic I believe that George has truly captured what it's like to be a medic. The sarcasim, sense of humor, as well as physical and emotional stress are all portrayed very well. This is a quick read that keeps your interest constantly. Hat's off to you George on a fine book.... keep your stories coming. Ps: George is actually much crazier in real life than he is in this book : )

I was unable to put this book down, and read with a captivating combination of shock and awe! This book is as exciting and real as it's author, who is still practicing as a paramedic, and still collecting stories-- hopefully for the sequel. I work in healthcare and feel better knowing that there are paramedics like George out there-- one's who care. This is a not-to-miss.

I agree with the previous reviewer. This book is perfect for anybody who likes to hear exciting tales straight from the streets of New York. Written with a direct-to-the-point style, Buff to Burnt is an excellent read while commuting, working on your own ambulance or just relaxing at home on the weekend. Explicit without being (overly) gory, the tales are succinct yet still paint a picture vivid enough where you can almost see the Paramedic patch on your shoulder and hear the sirens flying by. A definite page-turner!

Paramedic Buff to Burnt is an excellent book. Not only is it easy reading, but gives wonderful insight into the job that EMS does. This is one of those books that is not only great for people looking to enter the field but for those of us who do the job and the families of those who do this job. This book is touching and funny, and anyone who reads it will not be disappointed.

This book was and excellent reading tool. George has created a wonderful outlook to the gritty street life of the average paramedic. Being a paramedic myself, I can relate to the differet situation that this book offered. I felt very strong emotions to the street life. This book has opened up a entire new world to me, i felt as if i was on the outside looking into my own life. I would recommend that every paramedic and EMT read this book. EXCELLENT reading!!! a five star plus.

I thought the short story aspec was a great idea. It made it easy to read, and hard to put down. I think it's an honest account of how paramedics and all ems go thru the different phases of their job. It's alo great to know that not everyone gets completely burnt out. The pictures too show what it's like out on the street. Not Hollywood at all. Of course I could be bias since the author is my husband! Being a NYC paramedic as well I truly was able to enjoy this book.

Excellent Stories, but Where was the Editor?,
By
This review is from: Paramedic Buff to Burnt (Paperback)
I've never enjoyed reading negative reviews, but I felt it necessary to post a word of warning as well as a question. The real-life experiences contained in this book of stories were excellent, but the spelling, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure were clearly and disturbingly not edited. It is possible that I received a draft or early-release copy of the book, but I wanted to know if anyone else who bought this item noticed this. Feedback anyone?
