Some tips from the book include:
* Get down on your hands and knees to better observe what is at baby's level.
* Miniblind and drapery cords must be tied up or cut off and kept out of child's reach - Children can become entangled in cords and strangle.
* Check the tension on your garage door opener - It should reverse when it hits something.
* Empty buckets immediately after use and turn them upside down to avoid a potential drowning.
* Don't jiggle, shake or throw baby in the air - Even when done playfully a baby can be seriously injured by the jarring motion.
* Never leave children alone around water - They can drown in less than an inch of water.
* Check [crib] mattress for holes - Baby can pull material out and choke if swallowed.
* Don't use pillows in baby's crib - They can cause suffocation.
* Never leave baby unattended on a water bed - An infant can roll over and suffocate.
* Invite your local police department to give a talk to a group of parents regarding child safety and abduction.
* Remove hats and clothing with strings when child is playing on gym equipment - Child can become entangled and strangle.
* Pools should have a five foot high fence around them with a locking gate or a safety cover.
* Keep objects not in use out of the pool - Children will go in the water if they want something they see floating in it.
