Book Description

Once Nara combines her prophetic ability with Ethan's power to outsmart Fate at his own deadly cat-and-mouse game, she's more determined than ever to help Ethan learn the meaning behind the raven sword tattoo that suddenly appeared on his back after their confrontation with Fate.

During her quest to uncover the tattoo's secrets, Nara enlists the help of some new friends and discovers her own surprising connection to Ethan.

While Nara digs deeper into the mystery, her desire for answers leads her down a dangerous path full of powerful and ruthless enemies. Swept into an age-old battle, Nara quickly learns that keeping one's enemies close can be a necessary evil, making an intangible enemy she can control far more preferable to the human enemies she can't.

EXCERPT from LUCID (BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS, book 2)

"What'd he say to you?" Ethan said in a low tone.

I tilted my head and decided to tell him the truth. "He thinks you're bad for me. That you'll consume me."

Ethan's gaze narrowed sideways and his jaw muscle jumped.

I ran my finger along the twitching muscle. "Do you plan to consume me, Ethan?"

His gaze snapped back to mine and he clasped my shoulders, pulling me so close I had to crane my neck to meet his darkened gaze. "Not in the way he meant."

Every bone in my body melted at the heated look in his gaze as he stared at my lips with hungry intent. But instead of kissing me, he pressed his lips tenderly to my forehead and spoke in a desperate whisper, "You totally break me apart, Nara. You're the only one who has the power to do that. You consume me."

Author's note: LUCID is a dark paranormal novel length YA full of action, adventure, mystery and romance. It's best suited for ages 14 and up.

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid sequel July 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Lucid is the sequel to Brightest Kind of Darkness, and a book I was eager to read. I adored BKoD and found Nara and Ethan wonderful characters; therefore I wanted to know what was next in their journey. Nara is again an interesting character, who has a good heart and is moving forward with trying to find out what Ethan is. Lucid is a much slower paced book then BKoD, with a lot of fact gathering and it doesn't really pick up pace until the end where all the information that Nara has found comes together. All the action happens in the final 20% of the story, and to be honest until that point I was disappointed with the book. But what happens in the last part of the story makes up of all the disappointment and actually made me appreciate everything that happened prior. I think this is a book I will enjoy more the second time around because of this.

After finishing Lucid the one thing that stood out for me that I would like to have known before reading it, is that Ethan is basically not in the book until the last 20%. I have to say I missed Ethan. Ethan is such a wonderful hero, so protective of Nara, and I was constantly thinking when is he coming back. I wanted more of that beautiful sweet romance that was present in BKoD. The romance is still there in Lucid, but due to the Ethan's absence it has a much different feel about it. But boy is it GREAT when Ethan does return.

Overall Lucid was a great second book, but not quite as good as the first. A good test of the second book is do I want to read the third? Yes, I am eagerly awaiting the next one.
Will I read it again? Yes
Would I recommend it? Yes

5.0 out of 5 stars An Intriguing and Exciting Sequel! September 27, 2012
Format:Paperback
After devouring the first book in this series, I couldn't wait to dive into the second installment. 'Lucid' picks up right where 'Brightest Kind of Darkness' leaves off. The story flows effortlessly with the first book, so it felt like I hadn't missed a step between books. Just like the first novel, this book centers on Nara and Ethan as they continue their journey together to figure out their abilities and to battle the forces conspiring against them.

This novel was just as well written as the first, and was full of just as many twists and surprises - keeping me on my toes the entire time. Nara and Ethan's relationship develops further in this book, which I loved. The romance wasn't to syrupy or corny - like some young adult novels can be. I found it to be very sweet and swoon-worthy. The interesting plot concerning Fate and the battle that they are fighting in is very intricate and well detailed - which really drew me in and had me invested deeply in the story. I still find the concept of fighting Fate as an entity fascinating and the author definitely keeps the mystery and action charged throughout the novel. The reader is able to see obvious character growth in this second novel, and the storyline only gets more interesting as the series progresses. I will definitely be eagerly awaiting the next book in the series to be released. Highly recommended for fans of paranormal fiction that is outside the norm.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
