Book Description

The first book in the Tales of the Guardian Series - A Young Adult Paranormal Romance

Imagine a moment of unseen intervention on your behalf. What would you do if you discovered invisible beings surrounding you? What if you were the key to their survival? SON OF EDEN introduces a world where unseen beings really do exist, love has no limits, and the realization of one’s self worth is pivotal. Tormented by sadness over her mother’s death, Emily Wallace wonders if life really has any purpose. Her question is answered when she meets Alexander. After transgressing the laws of his kind, Alexander reveals his true nature to Emily and the two find life without one another is not an option. But, forming such a cosmically unique relationship comes with a price. It becomes apparent that some will stop at nothing to ensure an ancient prophecy surrounding these two is never fulfilled. Is the Opposition motivated by knowledge of Alexander’s true identity? Or, are they more concerned with who Emily is destined to become.

Also available for download, Daughter of Earth - Book #2 in the Tales of the Guardian series.

About the Author

Brianna Merrill grew up in Cottonwood, Arizona, and then went on to attend college in Mesa, Arizona. After marrying her husband, Brianna took a time out from college and they moved to the White Mountains to raise their family. Brianna is the proud mother of five, and loves spending time with her children. When asked if writing books was something she always wanted to do, Brianna responded, " I never aspired to be an author. I had an idea that could not be ignored. When I finally gave into it I found myself enjoying the new freedom of writing and dreaming up a whole world of my own. There were no limitations and I loved that." SON OF EDEN is Brianna's first novel, but she is currently working on the remaining two books in the Tales of the Guardian series.

2.0 out of 5 stars i agree with NK Fire February 4, 2012

This book's premise was a new one for me (1 star given right there) and I started to read and hope for the best. By the time the first chapter was over I had a sinking feeling that it wouldn't get any better. It didn't. How Emily manages to talk in the most unnatural English ever, especially for someone her age, is a bit jarring. And everyone in Eden is "perfection" with blonde hair and green eyes...what is THAT crap about? I suppose no one who looks Xicano/Latino, Black, or Asian is good enough to get into heaven huh. Thanks for the memo for those of us who don't fit "perfection". That took away a star for me. It completely pulled me out of the story every time it was mentioned because it's like a slap in the face (especially with how detailed hoity toity Ms. Merrill got in her description of everything pale and heroic). It wouldn't have been so bad except for the fact that it was *so* overdone. It wouldn't have been very noticeable but it KEPT COMING UP. Get on with the story already! Emily's father (there goes another star) was way too much. Your daughter tells you out of the blue what she'd been doing behind your back with a boy and you're cool with it? She tells you she almost died a few times, and you're cool with it????!?!?! Some of the worst parents out there would still be more upset by at least one of those but this is a man who is supposed to be uberconcerned because his wife already died and Emily is all he has left. Guess he missed the "caring doting parent" memo. When the details aren't busy making you feel like speeding past a few paragraphs or pages at a time (which I was sorely tempted to but didn't...hoping it would get better) the relevant ones explain the storyline in a way you can understand.... 5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY! May 6, 2011
By Meg
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A paranormal romance that is appropriate for young ladies to read! I (on the other hand), am a thirty-something mother of two, and thoroughly enjoyed this book. I can't wait for the next in the series to be released. What a unique story, loved the romance, and the writing was excellent. WELL worth the .99 cents!! I'd imagine this is going to be a very BIG series and am already anticipating someone wanting to make a movie out of it one day!

3.0 out of 5 stars It is ok but not really for adults January 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The story was well written for the most part but I found it rather tedious due to the writing itself. It is made for young teenagers (10-15?) not for adults.

There was entirely too much explaining, too simplistic word choices and dry. I am not saying that it was a bad story. Just that I prefer my stories a litte more adult and faster paced. I cannot express adequately regarding the sentence structure, choice of verbage and the ... well, I found it very boring and lacking ... something.

I gave it to an 11 year old and she seemed to like it well enough, but for me .. no.

Strongly recommended for middle school children.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, poorly written January 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Caution: review contains spoilers

Overall, I loved the idea for this book. However, the writing itself left a lot to be desired. I found the characters to be poorly developed and the writing style immature. After learning that this was the author's first book, I would say there is potential for future books if the author can learn to show the reader what is occuring in the story instead of telling every little detail. I thought the characters were shallow and underdeveloped and Emily's father accepting the situation so easily was unrealistic. I would also like to have seen more action in the final battle.

2.0 out of 5 stars Interesting concept, but execution needs work January 31, 2012
By EM
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Interesting concept but agreed with others that the writing still needs to be developed. The characters were flat and the dialogue was uninspired and uninspiring. The book felt like a recitation of events without eliciting any emotion or connection for the reader.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected. July 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
After reading all the 5 star reviews for this book I was expecting a well written book with an excellent story line. The idea for this book is original. Basically this girl has a personal Guardian, kind of like an angel. He materializes for her and tells her that he loves her. This is the part where I got confused, why does he love her? What is it about Emily that makes her different in the millenia that Alexander has been a Guardian? So what ensues is that Alexander's love for Emily breaks all the rules of his kind and that there will be repercussions. The major conflict in the book is between the Guardians and an unknown faction called the Opposition. We never learn a whole lot about the Opposition so baiscally the whole book centers around Alexander's love for Emily.
Also what bothered me whas the materialism in the book. When they are facing a life or death situation Emily was worried that her clothes weren't cute enough for Alexander.
In short, as a reader, I want more conflict betweent the main characters. Real couples, real relationships, and real people have arguments, strife and conflict. It's too unbelievable and impossible to relate if the characters are perfect and always give eachother the lovey face.
I really liked the wisdom from the father in this book, I thought it was great insight and that's why I gave it 4 stars: Originality and food for thought. Hopefully the next book will will give the characters depth and relatability because I think the series has promise, and for 99 cents it's a bargain.
