Editorial Reviews

Travel deep into the strange and mysterious with Paranormal Research Society (PRS) founder Ryan Buell and his team of investigators as they attempt to unravel inexplicable phenomena including sixth-sense experiences, ghost sightings, demonic disturbances, and brushes with the darkest areas of the unknown.

In Season Four, the PRS travels to New Jersey, where a couple believes spirits in their home are influencing their behavior; North Carolina, where the team attempts to stop the force allegedly causing violent outbursts in a 3-year-old girl, and northern Pennsylvania, where guests are fleeing a famous hotel due to frightening reports of paranormal activity.

Founded by Buell in 2001, the PRS works on cases across the country and is one of the most recognized paranormal societies in the nation. Through the use of Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) recordings and video documentation, and with the help of renowned psychics, demonologists, psychologists and counselors, the PRS explores these bizarre cases in the hopes of helping frightened people who have nowhere else to turn.

It hasn't been very long ago that I thought paranormal occurences were made up. Now I am a true believer. I remembered years ago the house I grew up in had alot of unusual noices and sounds and missing items. I was told by my parents that it was nothing. But watching this show and learning that what I saw and heard probably were ghosts or other things. I like this show because nothing is done to make an investigation more interesting. I think these young investigators have done alot to do away with everything but the real deal. This season is the best one they have done so far and the quality of the show is alot better than other hunters. Good job well done on this DVD.

In comment to the previous reviewer: I don't know if the investigations are staged or not, but I really don't care. The show is entertaining and scary, which if we are honest, is exactly why we watch these shows in the first place. Very few people are watching these shows to get an education in ghost hunting. If you want to be educated, watch Ghost Hunters. If you want to roll your eyes and watch over-the-top investigating, watch ghost adventures. If you want to feel the goosebumps on your arms and have trouble turning off the lights, watch a haunting. As for this show, it is pure enjoyment with some pretty scary stuff in every episode. Chip Coffey is one of my favorite mediums on TV. What about Elaine Warren? You certainly can't dispute her credibility as a medium and she's been on the show several times. There will always be a level of doubt in this genre/field, so take claims of fact or fake with a grain of salt. Can't wait for season 5!

When I purchased "Paranormal State, My Journey into the Unknown", I expected to read just about how Ryab Buell came to be the founder of The Paranormal Research Society and star of Paranormal State. This book does answer those questions concerning his life and so much more. The author, Ryan Buell, bravely gave the readers his truth regarding his life and the many cases on the TV series Paranormal State. He tells the entire story of each case and all the people involved, and reveals the truth, as he sees it.
Ryan did a brillant job telling his personal story. He writes openly on his life's story speaking about the terrifying past to exactly where he is today. This book is a must read for all fans of PRS, as well as many people who had their own paranormal experiances. This book will leave you with the feeling of knowing the truth about each case and everyone involved. I already had a great respect for Ryan Buell, because of the work he does for the many people who have very few places to turn for help with possible paranormal activity. PRS is a group the world needs more of. The care, empathy and solid solutions or at least advise of how to handle tough, unique problems.

Yeah, I was enthusiastic about this show when I first saw it. I was happy they added a calm sense of purpose; like they are there to help and not just check it out for a night and then say adios. I also liked that they brought God into it as well. They seemed legit.

THEN, I saw this and season 5...I was so incredibly disgusted. Buell went from being basically about PRS to grand standing every chance he got. Running around sqwacking to ghosts that he'd had negative encounters. Just basically ACTING. Period. Also, Chip Coffy wasn't in it even half as much from the 4th season on....I liked him and he helped make the show what it was.

Someone reviewed that Choffy was a fraud, and Buell was a basic moron. I don't know the truth about either. I do think Buell writing a book about himself while still in his 20's is a tad egotistical, but Coffy being a fraud, you'd have to prove it to me. Either way, they'll have to answer to their own consciences.

Basically, I'd DEF stop watching after the 3rd season...the rest is tripe and annoying as all get out. Credability is gone.

First off, I have to say that the only reason I watch this show is because my oldest daughter got me into it. I personally do not believe in ghosts or most elements of the supernatural, but I do enjoy an entertaining ghost story. This show is almost impossible to find on DVD without driving for 2 hours, and that's the reason I bought this set for my daughter on Amazon. While some of the episodes don't hold up as well as those from earlier seasons, this set was pretty entertaining. This was an "early Christmas present" for her, as it's the only season of the show she was unable to watch while it aired on A&E. I've got to wonder how much longer the PRS can keep this series up, as some of the cases are kind of dull or bizarre (Haunted Sex Dungeon)??? With the exception of this episode, most are family friendly as long as your kids are tween or above and aren't easily frightened.

I like this show because they actually attempt to help the home owners with their paranormal problems. However, this season did not provide an awful lot in line of EVPs and other possible evidence. Some points feel a little scripted. Overall though good stories. They do their research to try to find possible root causes. They attempt to help in whatever way they can instead of investigating and leaving. So far I like season 1 and 5 the best.
