4.0 out of 5 stars Parappatastic, October 14, 2000

This game is pretty simple to figure out, and for a person that does not get in to games that feature explosions, shooting, and other usually violent action, I thought it was great fun. The characters are cute, the words are catchy, and I found myself hooked on this game! It is good fun for any age. I am 31, and my neice, 13, likes it as much as I do.

4.0 out of 5 stars You Gotta Believe!, November 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Parappa the Rapper (Video Game)
This game is SO MUCH FUN. You rap your way through an adventure/ love story. You are a cute/ hip dog, trying to win the love of Daisy. You learn to drive, bake a cake, karate, and sell merchandise by rapping. You even have to rap well to use the bathroom. Creativity is rewarded. I have yet to meet someone who has not LOVED this game!

Wow, there aren't enough words to express how fun this game is. Interesting graphics, funky rhythms, catchy tunes (from rap, hip hop, to even reggae), a hip hop lovers dream. its a cool game thats worth a purchase, but don't go for the sequel cause its too weird and not too fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars In The Rain Or In The Snow/ I Got The Funky Flow..., December 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Parappa the Rapper (Video Game)
Yes, "Parappa The Rapper" is geared towards the child, but anybody will have a ball playing with it. Parappa might not be the hippest hopper on Earth, but the irrepressible catchiness of the flows and the undaunting challenge to sound sweet... scratches any negativity. He raps his way thru, while learning karate with an onion-head Mr. Miagi, how to drive with a moose in law enforcement, how to succesfully sell junk with a reggae lizard, having to rap as a privelege to cut to front of a bathroom line, how to bake with a snippy hen, & how to just plum rock a crowd on stage in freestyle mode. Downsets include short stages and the fact that not everybody has the "funky flow" and will have a hard time progressing/impressing to go to the freestyling phase of each stage. I'm not saying that's me, but when it comes to rap, some people are just... gosh-awful! But that's the fun in it, the more you bounce back from receiving an "awful," the better your approach to the rap will be (hopefully). And who doesn't love the 2D cookie cut-out characters and graphics? All 'n all, a game for the child, and the adolescent who's not the ashamed to play this game. I know "Parappa 2" might have been released in Japan a while back, but I wish Sony will unleash it to America. I wonder if "Umjammer Lammy" is any good...

This here is some dope rhyme yo. Parappa brings a new level of entertainment to the Playstation. With such masterful rhyme weaving skillz, and insanely wonderful characters like Master Chi the Onion, how could you not dig this? This game is totally phat and I hope that you all invest in it, because it will change your life like no other.

4.0 out of 5 stars The best music game, February 13, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Parappa the Rapper (Video Game)
Parappa is different from almost every other game ever made (besides Unjammer Lammy). You hit different buttons to make Parappa say words, and try to be quick enough to keep the rap flowing and keep up with whoever is rapping with Parappa(like a chef chicken, an onion that knows martial arts or a frog who sells stuff). If you rap better than the character you're with you get to rap on your own for a while and make some horrible song. The game starts out easy but quickly gets difficult and many poeple quit after they get to the thrid level. Unfortunately, there are only 6 levels and once you beat them there's not much you can do with the game. Still, the comedy and original idea make it worth 5 stars.

I've never laughed so much playing a video game -- a totally unique and entertaining game! You must try it to believe, not your average game.

4.0 out of 5 stars A one of a kind..., May 12, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Parappa the Rapper (Video Game)
This is an anomoly in my video game collection. Most of my games are either baseball, wrestling or boxing games. A few years ago though, myself and a bunch of my other drummer friends started playing this game as a means of practicing without going deaf. As in, do what parappa is supposed to do, but always change up the rhythms and see what works and what doesn't. Not only did our scores go through the roof, but it was an awfully fun way to waste a couple of hours a week. It's a great game, although it's short. Anyone can play it, almost anyone can beat it, and it hilarious even the 50th time through it. If sony is smart, they'll re-release this puppy (no pun intended) in a hurry. Better for them to ...

4.0 out of 5 stars A cute game, March 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Parappa the Rapper (Video Game)
This is the very first game I got for my PlayStation, and I fell in love with it instantly. Laugh if you want, but PaRappa was on my cake at my 13th birthday party. Anyway, the game mixes innovative flat graphics (because Parappa means paper thin in Japanese) and catchy tunes to bring audiences a light fun game in the midst of all the fighting and other fast paced games. Whether you're young or old, you'll fall in love with this adorable dog in a heartbeat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game but too short!, August 6, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Parappa the Rapper (Video Game)
This game is amazing. It's like the beginning of rhythm games. The interesting characters and the short and cute story keeps this game entertaining and never trite even the second time through.
Parappa, the main character, has a crush on a girl named Daisy. He really wants to impress her so he tries everything that he can to catch her attention. His friends Katy Kat and P.J. Berry try to help him out as well. However, there is another boy named Joe Chinn who has a crush on her as well but is more'superman' than he is. So the game's plot is just that. But the way to get there is really the fun part!

Some things to applaud:
- the raps are super cacthy
- interesting characters
- creative gameplay
- interesting artstyle (everything in the game is 2d)

Some things that couldv'e been fixed/tweaked:
- length of game (too short!)
- timing (the notes don't exactly match the button sequences, which make inputting longer beats/combinations a bit more difficult and at times a bit frustrating
- Doesn't offer more than the short game itself (i.e. no extras for beating the game)

All in all, Parappa the rapper is truly an innovative game and, though it is considered out dated by today's PS3 and 360 games, incorporates many different elements that one would not normally think to put together solidly. Despite the games rarity today if you ever get a chance to play it or own it you should!

8.3 / 10
